More posts, more readers, more fun.

So basically it is the "fans", and I use that lightly, that are giving it a bad name. Like I said earlier this has become my first stop for the Buckeye, because there is actual talk here that is not insane, come on fire D'antonio that is freaking crazy. I just wanted to see what most people felt was the problem over there. It also makes me realize and want to say
Thanks C-Dog and to everybody who puts something positive into this site it is what makes it above and beyond the rest.

More posts, more readers, more fun......

.....and more Buckeye news, more diverse opinions, and (even better) more advertising revenue. :)

Some interesting year 2003 comments, including below:

MililaniBuckeye: C-Dog, right on. It's nice to see several new posts a day, and the almost total lack of flaming (once in a blue moon, an outsider come here via the link on Bucknuts' front page and talks shit). But I really wouldn't want traffic to get to the point that new posts get pushed onto the second page before most folks get a chance to read them. I think if we were to grow to about 500-1000 members, that would be ideal.

My 6000th post!!!

Thanks for bumping this thread back up. Its awesome to see where BP started and where it is now. All the "dinosaurs" on here have witnessed all the growing pains, and have probably forgotten more buckeye stuff than ive ever discussed. Not kissing anyones ass but this blows the other boards away, and Im happy to be here.

SON!!

Trust me, we never thought we'd get to where we're approaching 15,000 members...

No doubt, Milwood. Thinking back to the spring of 2003 when this all got started, its amazing how far it has progressed, but in a good way. By that, I mean that the "other" place progressed too rapidly and in a bad way. The 2002 National Championship killed Bucknuts, literally. All of a sudden, every bandwagon jumper with a red sweatshirt hopped on and made the place a travesty. They literally got too big for thier own britches over night, and decided to $$$ in on it while the gett'in was good. No shame in that, hey, this is the land of opportunity. The shame came in how they treated their own, guys like you and C-Dog. I agreed with alot of what you said, disagreed with some also, but other than being accused of excessive drug abuse, you were always pretty civil in making your points. I never saw you "rip" someone who didn't deserve it. C-Dog was quite simply the guy on that site with the most reasonable demeanor, and made his points by giving you something to think about. Obviously "thinking" wasn't a high priority there and "poof" now you're gone was about it.

Anyway, it's been a long haul and the assembled cast of folks running this place is simply amazing. I know as a Charter Member I appreciate the fact that the MODS/ ADMNS/ and C-Dog in particular realize that my Irish and Italian blood mixed with too many "pops" is not a good combination and have caused me to go off at times to the point that I should have been banned permanently. I'll try to keep that a thing of the past. We all have a bond here, which is Buckeye athletics. But whats impressive is that most here seem to be really decent folks (As I think back to the recent passing of my father and the outpouring of well-wishes that came from total strangers). And THAT in my opinion is the difference between BP and the rest, we have here the BEST of the Buckeye fans. And, to top it off, it seems that we've attracted over the years the BEST of the rival posters as well. Keep up the great work! Make C-Dog's "dream" that HAS become reality even greater!

Peace.

I come to BP for two reasons. First, I really love sports and am so incredibly disappointed to see the era of great sports writers come to an end. It is hard to find any meaningful analysis, anything that does not have some commercial intention interwoven into the opinions it expresses. On BP, I find a number of posters who provide objective information, insight, and opinions that I really value.

Second, I like the sense of community that exists here and the diversity of things that can happen in the various fora. Some folks post very informative messages in the sports fora and then disappear without participating in the general banter. Others can be counted on for light-hearted (whatever happened to shenanigans?) contributions in the open forum. Over the years, I have enjoyed what both kinds of contributors have written.

Well done to you all, especially Clarity. Greenies for you!

I'm also glad to see what it has evolved into. I've been reading the site since Dec 2006, but just started posting this month.

I stumbled across the site then looking for desktop themes and loved some of the stuff the users were able to put up.

I've now gone more in depth with the recruiting and knowledge of Buckeye stuff and love it. I post more in the open discussion then anything else, because I know there are much wiser people than me on any of the other boards. I hardly miss a game(sigh...work), but I never actually played the sport. Just a fan. I love all things Buckeye. My fiancee is extremely keen on my Buckeye living room and bathroom, but she doesn't live with me yet so it stays! I'm still trying to get that Scarlet and Gray wedding!

I now am addicted to the site and it's great. Everytime I'm on the computer I at least have to check the new posts. I work 3rd, so it makes some of the day go faster!

I was just saying something like this the other day. Sports writing is dead at the highest levels. With all due respect to guys like Schlabach and his peers (and not much is), writing in that arena has denigrated to the point where I can't really tell the difference between one of their articles, and a forum poster like the aforementioned "deezbucknutz." Gone are the days of meaningful analysis (for the most part), and what they deliver instead are shots at schools and fan bases they just don't like. It's 99% sensationalism now, particularly by those who cover college athletics.

It's that climate that's spawned the likes of Adam Jardy. People who feel they can make a name for themselves by being offensive and confrontational. Every major program has parasites like these now. People who flutter around the fringe, and look for opportunities to create outrage (and thus eyeballs), and they love it.

Once upon a time, writers were respected for their ability to tell a story, turn a phrase, or offer perspective on an issue (amongst other points of value). Today, it seems that (s)he who can piss the most people off wins.

I lived on ESPN.com in its early days. Beta'd a number of their offerings, subscribed for the longest time. Got their magazine, SI, SportingNews, all that stuff. Now? For reasons that are not just financial, I don't subscribe to a single sports magazine, or website. I don't visit ESPN.com, unless someone sends me a specific link, and even then, I have pause. Truth is, I'm happier for it. Easier to enjoy the basic truths of college football when it's not polluted by someone else's personal agenda.

Anyway, this is a funny thread. It's interesting to see it pop up again, and I appreciate the comments, PMs, and rep notes it's generated.

That aside, please stop telling people!

Unfortunately, C, it's not just sports reporting that has taken the sensationalism hit. It's literally everywhere. I realize, of course, you weren't making the larger point I'm getting at here. Just happens to be a topic I had occasion to talk to a colleague about today (Some thinly veiled stuff about McCain having had an affair, I guess).
