Monday Night Football (Official Thread)

Nuge came back and hit a 52 yarder later in the game while Denver's kicker shanked a game winner. I don't see this game being on Nuge...

agreed, getting sick of everyone blaming Nuge for it..a missed FG early in the 2nd qtr doesn't affect the 2nd half. Fact is Bengals came out flat and uninspired in the 2nd half and completely went away from what was working

Brett Favre reportedly flunked his audition to be 'Monday Night Football' analyst

ESPN is still auditioning replacements to take over Jon Gruden's role

ESPN is still searching for its replacement for new Raiders head coach Jon Gruden. The network has been holding "Monday Night Football" auditions since Gruden returned to coaching, and it has not found its next analyst just yet.

Peyton Manning reportedly turned down the job in March, but he's not the only Hall of Fame quarterback ESPN potentially wanted for the spot. Another well-known QB recently auditioned and, well, let's just say we will not be seeing Brett Favre on TV come Monday nights next fall. According to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, Favre's audition for the spot did not go well.

Favre recently came in for one of the auditions, according to sources. Though it was unclear if Favre would even want the job, sources said he was not great during the tryout and has been told he is no longer under consideration. Favre's agent, Bus Cook, did not return a call. ESPN declined comment.

Favre likely would have been able to demand the same type of salary as Jon Gruden. ESPN was prepared to offer Manning the same $6.5 million salary as Gruden with possibly even a little room for negotiation, according to sources.

Peyton Manning, Eli Manning to headline alternate Monday Night Football broadcast

Former NFL quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Eli Manning will take part in an alternate Monday Night Football broadcast over the next three seasons, ESPN announced Monday.

The Monday Night Football MegaCast will air on ESPN2 for 10 games in each of the next three seasons and will include current and former NFL players and celebrities joining the Manning brothers on the broadcast. A host has not been named.

"This partnership with ESPN and The Walt Disney Company reflects an ongoing, shared commitment to offering fans fun, innovative content," Peyton Manning said in a statement. "ESPN+ has been a terrific partner for Omaha Productions [Manning's production company] as we built out The Places franchise and we're excited to co-create a new MegaCast format that will have something for everyone."

The MegaCast will debut the first three weeks of the 2021 season, including the Sept. 13 Monday Night Football opener between the Baltimore Ravens and Las Vegas Raiders, with the remaining seven weeks to be announced.

Steve Levy, Brian Griese, Louis Riddick, Lisa Salters and John Parry will remain on the traditional Monday Night Football broadcast for the second straight season in 2021.

"Offering multiple Monday Night Football viewing options for the next three seasons continues our innovation efforts and provides additional value for our fans," Jimmy Pitaro, chairman of ESPN and sports content, said in a statement. "Peyton and Eli will bring a different approach, delving into conversation about broader, big-picture topics while also honing in on the game, much like fans do when watching with their family and friends."

Eli Manning Gives Double Middle Fingers During 'Monday Night Football' Broadcast

By all accounts, ESPN's alternate 'Manning Cast' broadcast during Monday Night Football have been a resounding success. The brothers have obvious chemistry with one another, and their dry senses of humor, football expertise and A-list guests make the viewing experience entertaining and informative.

Monday night's broadcast featuring the Eagles and Cowboys showed that the pair still has a lot to learn about being on television, though. Lesson No. 1: refrain from using offensive hand gestures on camera, if possible.

Eli Manning clearly needed to be schooled in that regard during the fourth quarter of the game. With the Cowboys comfortably ahead and the result assured, the Manning brothers and guest Chris Long discussed their playing days, with Eli describing how hostile Philadelphia fans were to him. He recalled a 9-year-old boy giving a particularly offensive gesture, and then after considering his options for a beat, demonstrated said gesture for the viewing audience.
