I'd say that Beanie stacks up pretty well as a freshman. If Beanie had been the main ballcarrier last year I doubt that this thread would be up for debate. MC got 20 carries per game and averaged over 110 yards a game. Beanie averaged about 7.4 carries a game and 40 yards a game. If he got comparable carries (and this is a fair thing to extrapolate because we have the Pittmane carries and yards that did occur) his stats would have been nearly identical to Clarett's. Beanie just happened to come along when we already had a #1 tailback.

I'd disagree with those that claim Clarett as the better talent. Let's not forget that Beanie was Parade's National Player of the Year, or forget the fact that as a sophomore, when healthy he's one of the top running backs in the country. I'd also give him a speed edge over Clarett and the fact that he's not only a team player and good teammate but a solid citizen as well. I don't think anyone can call Maurice Clarett a great "teammate". He was all about himself.

This is all, of course, IMHO.

I'd give the edge to MoC on Vision, a little bit more power/leg drive, and pass catching threat.

I'd give the edge to Beanie on cutback ability and beanie is a bit faster.

Overall though MoC basically took over games and I'd give him the edge over Beanie. Also I thought that MoC did most of his damage with less of a passing attack.

As Frosh MoC was the better back hands down.

For every year after that until they die - Beanie wins in a landslide.
I have to kinda sorta disagree here. We don't know how good Beanie would have been if he had been thrust into the same situation as Mo was. In a way Beanie was lucky he got to run behind Pitt, but I would hesitate to say that Beanie would do worse than MO did as a frosh as the lead runner.

Just like a few others posted. If clarett was healthy all season and Beanie wasn't a back up for Pittman. Then we would have help with the answer.

Clarett taking the ball back from miami safety Taylor's arm's after a turnover is still stuck in my head. That was the key for us to win in my eyes.

Beanie in that high school all american game dominating like he was a man playing with kids was just his beginning of greatness then, his last few games.

One thing for sure, these 2 being starters at OSU means WINS.
