MLB General Discussion (Official Thread)

Automated strike zones, please. The guys who can actually hit the ball usually have a better grasp of the zone than old guys who can't.

That means by the umpire accuracy data we have that something like 389 of those pitches were called incorrectly (~91% accuracy rate).

Four fucking hundred missed calls when the technology exists to get it right 99.99% of the time without any of these worthless pieces of shit losing heir job.

EDLC probably got 50 of those on his own this summer!

Wouldn't they go to 3 umps? Still would be an easy job; just slightly change positions on the diamond.

The MiLB games I saw that used robo ump still had the home plate ump. He just got the ball/strike call in an ear piece (I assume). I didn't even realize it was being used until someone told me. No disruption to the game at all. So I am assuming teh same thing at MLB?

I have never seen the challenge system in use but I don't get that one either. Why let them fuck up and waste time challenging it? Just get it right up front.

Correct me if I'm wrong, which is highly likely, but doesn't the ball have to cross the front of the plate between the knees and armpits to be a called strike? Meaning a big ole sweeper can't come in and hit a back part of the plat and still be called a strike. If so, that means the AI only hast to look at 1 vertical plane to get the call right which would make it damn near perfect on balls and strikes. Wouldn't that be a novel idea.

Edit: yep I was wrong. Defined as the "volume of space above home plate between the bend in the batters knee and the midpoint between the batters belt and top of the shoulder". Ok then, these umps still suck ass!
