Pujols getting released by the Angels. His career is two distinct parts. An amazing decade in St. Louis and a mediocre (sometimes worse), horribly overpaid decade in LA.

In 11 years in St. Louis, he averaged .328/.420/.617, 40 HR, 121 RBI, 10x All Star, 3 x MVP
In 10 years in Los Angeles, he averaged .256/.311/.447, 22 HR, 78 RBI, 1x All Star

In his 11 years in STL, he hit over .300 ten times (.299 the season he didn't).
In his 10 years in LA, he never hit higher than .285 and hit < .250 six times, including the last six seasons.

The Cardinals made the postseason 7/11 seasons, won 3 pennants and 2 World Series
The Angels made the postseason 1/10 seasons.

The Angels paid $240M for a below average first baseman for 10 years. Whoops. That should go down as one of the worst major FA flops in sports history.

The way Lindor is hitting, the Indians dodged a huge bullet in trading him rather than re-signing him to a mega-deal.

Who is the last big FA signing the Mets had that lived up to their contract?

I don’t expect Lindor will turn into a total turd, but I don’t see him living up to anything approaching that contract. There have been signs the past few years that he may have already peaked...and may even be in a bit of a decline. Since his best season in 2018, his BA, OBP, SLG, power peripherals and oWar have all declined. His WAR has dropped kind of significantly from 2018-2019-2020 to now being in the negatives. He’s just 27, so he could still go on to a very good career, but you don’t see a lot of players have huge seasons their age 24 seasons then not build on it some way if they aren’t done developing.

Loved the way he played the game and his infectious attitude when he was with the Tribe, but I’m legitimately thinking the Tribe chose wisely not dumping a monster contract into him and the Mets got fleeced...like Angels/Pujols fleeced.

They have a special penchant for signing Indians who go off the cliff...like Baerga

To be fair, Baerga was a trade, not a FA.

I honestly can't think of a really big FA that went to the Mets and lived up to what they paid him. Carlos Beltran was another mega-FA they signed. He was pretty good for them, but they paid him superstar money and he didn't approach that.
