MLB General Discussion (Official Thread)

Devils advocate; if they were so effectively and copiously stealing signs, why have they only won a single WS?

The same reason the Yanks and Dodgers can’t win many lately even with all the money that they spend over the next closest teams? Sometimes it can get you there but it’s not a guarantee. Unless you’re CC Sabathia. He deals in certainties.

but that's my point. Even if it's just home games, quality MLB hitters actually just sitting on pitches they know are coming should be a shelling of any starting pitcher in baseball.

Not every hitter in every AB of course, sometimes they'll still hit it at someone or whatnot but look at hard hit rates on fastballs in fastball counts for all of baseball type of metrics. They'd have to be approaching those kind of numbers if they had a foolproof system for tipping pitches.

The LA City Council says that MLB should strip the Astros and Red Sox of their WS titles and give them to the Dodgers, thus proving that people in LA don’t have brains. A reasonable thought would conclude that the Dodgers should have played other AL teams in place of the Astros and Red Sox in the WS and that beating those other teams is not guaranteed. Maybe the AL teams in the Astros and Red Sox place should have won the WS. Nah. That’s ludicrous.

Report: National League could adopt DH in 2021

We could see the designated hitter completely take over Major League Baseball shortly.

MLB insider and former general manager Jim Bowden reported on Monday there is a “growing belief” from National League general managers that the DH could be instituted as soon as 2021.

It would be a landmark decision for the National League, which has required pitchers to bat since its inception in 1876 and provide uniformity with the rival American League.

The AL adopted the DH in 1973 following one of the most dominant spells of pitching in league history — especially in 1968. That year, Detroit Tigers pitcher Denny McLain won 31 games, St. Louis Cardinals ace and Hall of Famer Bob Gibson posted an MLB-record 1.12 ERA, and Boston Red Sox Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski led the American League with a measly .301 batting average.

While Major League Baseball attempted to combat that by lowering the pitcher’s mound from 15 inches to 10, the American League’s decision to implement the DH full-time altered the game forever.
