OK, I spent a good 10 minutes trying to figure each one out; and was stumped with the yellow "A" that (by process of elimination) had to be Pittsburgh and what the "t" meant for Milwaukee. Then I found the answer sheet (see spoiler).....

One thing that's interesting about the list, is that only 1 of the top 6 guys (Cobb) has 3,000 career hits.

AKAK has a good list for additional guys; I think that Mel Ott and Mark McGwire also need to be considered. I think my boyhood hero Al Kaline will miss out.

For whatever reason, I've always remembered "Kaline Becomes Youngest Bat Champ"....I use to have this Topps baseball card...I would have been 11 then....

Per ESPN, MLB average salaries declined for the second year in a row in 2019, the first instance of consecutive years of average salary declines in MLB history. $4.05M is the average MLB player salary. While that may seem high, they do have a 162-game schedule, far more games than any other major US pro sports league.

I highly doubt MLB teams were doing anything but increasing revenues themselves in these years, but certainly there is not much attendance at a lot of these games. Having 82 home games a year for bad baseball teams that fans know are a lost cause in terms of World Series contention is a recipe for not drawing, and that is the case for basically a third to half of MLB teams.

It's always been that way though with a lot of teams knowing they had no shot. Wild Card gives more teams some sense of hope that ever before.

Attendance may be down but it's not just because some teams are bad. There are bigger trends at play.
