Mizzou Tigers (official thread)

While the stats are insane, I wouldn't get too caught up on those.

What I would look at are things like his footwork, which is very impressive. Does a great job at maintaining his balance, solid short chops. The ball comes off his hand effortlessly and he has great accuracy. His arm strength is there without a doubt as he throws the deep ball with nice touch. Has a good feel in the pocket, good athlete. One worry is he gets a little herky jerky with his motion, but typically that is something that gets fixed as he gets older and adds some weight and muscle onto his frame so he doesn't have to turn into his throws so much. He has an issue of keeping the ball down while he's on the move around the pocket which coaches won't be happy about, but on a HS level with a kid like him it's not a big worry. Football runs in the family so you don't have to worry about his football IQ either. The 4 years of starters experience will be a huge intangible as well.

When you break it down, he's got a lot going for him and the negatives are things you'd keep an eye on to see if they get adjusted as he gets older. As far as young in-state QB's go, I find it hard to believe he will be a "hype" kid a year and a half from now.

Loved this kid coming out of HS, usually on scouting reports it can sometimes be a cop out to play the moxy/leader card but this kid had it from a very early age. The way he commanded the huddle, how much he loved football....there are some kids that just have "it" and I think Maty was one of them. I really think he'll go on to have a prolific career at Mizzou and I'm glad to see a "Midwest" team winning the SEC East....how that must kill traditional SEC folk.

Pinkel is a solid coach.....go figure, Ohio born coach and Ohio born QB

Mauk in the loss to South Carolina yesterday: 10 for 25 (40.0%), 249 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT ... and those stats include a 96-yard TD pass. Take that play out of the equation, and you're looking at 9 for 24 (37.5%) for 153 yards and an INT. I think that Ohio State will do just fine with the QB's that they have.

Agreed here, he played decent last night. Let's not forget that a bulk of his yards came on one 96yd play. He wasn't exactly picking the fake USC apart out there. And another WR had 3rec for 89yds. So in 4 catches you have almost 90% of his yards. I'm good with card ale and Jt. But good job for the Ohio kid

Second career start against a great defense....I'll give the freshman a break. I could point to Braxton's game against MSU freshman year (5/10, 56 yards, 1 INT, -27 rushing yards) if you want to point to early career rough starts and how they aren't much of an indicator to anything other than a young QB against a great defense.

No one is saying OSU won't be fine at QB but Mauk has the potential to be great and for being a kid from Ohio it's easy to see why fans would wonder "what if?"

If anyone is asking "what if" in the midst of a 20-game winning streak....

Then what? Maty is a RS FR, he'd have two years after Brax and at the very least be in the competition with Cardale next year to be back up, and as we've seen this year that can be a spot that plays a few games.

A 20-game win streak, and this 20 game win streak, has been built on having such important depth.

No disrespect to young Mr Mauk, but he couldn't carry my main man Cardale's jock strap!

Nice Maty Mauk story....

Maty Mauk's longtime friend and inspiration to attend Toledo game

Missouri quarterback Maty Mauk drives a wheelchair-accessible van in July 2014 around the outskirts of Kenton, Ohio, with childhood friend Drey Dearing.

When Missouri visits Toledo for an afternoon kickoff Saturday, sophomore quarterback Maty Mauk wants to "put on a show."
Not for himself. Not for the ESPN national broadcast. Not for his team, even.
"For him," the sophomore said, referring to a lifelong friend from his hometown of Kenton, Ohio, roughly 76 miles south of Toledo.

Watching from the wheelchair-accessible section of the stadium's south end zone will be 18-year-old Drey Dearing.

Kenton will be well represented in the stands this weekend. Bundles of tickets have been reserved by the people who watched their town's high school signal caller put together a career that made him the country's all-time leader in passing yards, completions and touchdowns.

It will mean something to see all those people, Mauk said. But it will mean something else entirely when he sees his childhood friend once again.

Dearing could walk when he was 5 years old. That was when he first became pals with Mauk. It was the fall of 2001, and they were fellow ball boys for the Kenton Wildcats, coached by Mauk's father, Mike, and quarterbacked by his brother, Ben.

On the sidelines, when the Wildcats won the state championship that year, Dearing could leap.

Dearing could run then, too, at least a little bit. On Friday nights, before the varsity team kicked off, he would team up with Maty and the boys. Dearing loved football as much as any of them.

"Drey, all he wanted was to play football," said his father, Doug Dearing.

But muscular dystrophy took its merciless course. It is a degenerative disease for which there is no cure, and by the fifth grade, it had taken away Drey Dearing's ability to walk.

Since then, Mauk and Dearing have shared a bond that has only grown stronger.

Georgia shuts out Mizzou, 34-0.

Maty Mauk's stat line: 9 for 21, 97 yards, 4 INT's, 3 sacks, and a fumble lost.

If anyone still thinks that he'd look good in scarlet and grey, I don't know what to tell you.

I think he'd look great in scarlet and grey. It's hard to go wrong with that color combination. I just wouldn't want him on the field as tOSU quarterback, especially with JT as our option.
