Missouri hires defensive coordinator Odom to replace Pinkel
Missouri promoted defensive coordinator Barry Odom on Thursday to replace the retiring Gary Pinkel as head coach.
The school said in a release that Odom agreed in principle to a five-year deal that will need to be approved by the school's board of curators next week.

Missouri reinstates QB Maty Mauk from suspension
Missouri QB Maty Mauk has one year of eligibility remaining.
Missouri has reinstated Maty Mauk, the quarterback who was twice suspended last season.

Odom said he was convinced after meeting with Mauk that he was excited about rejoining the program. Mauk has one year of eligibility remaining and could contend with freshman Drew Lock for the starting job next season.
The first suspension was for a violation of program policies, and then-coach Gary Pinkel declined to state the reason for the second suspension.

Teammate: Mauk has cleaned up, video is two years old
COLUMBIA, MO. • The video released Monday showing Missouri’s Maty Mauk appearing to snort a line of white powder was taken two years ago and the quarterback has since addressed his drug problem, a Mizzou teammate told the Post-Dispatch. The player asked to not be identified.
Multiple sources confirmed that Mauk’s initial suspension last September was related to a failed drug test. The team suspected he’d been using drugs and administered the test, leading to his suspension announced Sept. 29.
Mauk was initially suspended for four weeks. Shortly after he was reinstated on Oct. 25, Mauk was suspended for the rest of the season on Nov. 1 after he was spotted having a dispute outside a downtown Columbia bar on Oct. 28, the same day he apologized to his teammates for his actions during a team meeting. Mauk has not spoken publicly since the first suspension was announced.
The teammate said Mauk has “been really turning things around” since the end of the season and “has been clean for a while.”
