Mixed Martial Arts (Official Thread)

Lesnar is a nightmare for the heavyweight division and armchair mma experts. Some of the comments I have picked up from sherdog thus far...

"anybody who is a fan of Lesnar is simply an IDIOT fanatic who doesnt know right from wrong"

"Look for Dana to sign more big apes like Lesnar in the near future. UFC = WWE"

"one of the reasons they root for Lesnar is because he was his great white hope"

"hes ufcs bob sapp. a big guy with no skill who wins by being bigger in size and power alone."

i think pretty much 2/3 of the keyboard warriors (including me) on this site could lay on top of someone for 15 minutes, so why don't we pay 50 bucks to see that. i'm sorry, i just don't respect brock lesnar. i can't stand seeing such a freakshow in the UFC or MMA in general."

Brock isn't Kimbo Slice or Bob Sapp. If he would have unloaded on herring and sent him ten rows back people would have something negative to say about him. He is a beast. His antics will boost the amount of people watching him. There is no way anyone can simulate Brock's strength for training. Herring immediately looked like he had no clue what he was in for (same with mir)..Brock had control the whole fight. He definitely needs some submissions in his bag of tricks though. With mir he just committed and tried to maul him too death too fast, and got caught. This time he was a lot more patient. If all Brock did was "lay and pray" herrings face sure looked pretty rough. Those knees in his sides and back made me want to go take a painkiller for watching it.

His antics are no big deal. It will sell him and add something different to mma. Someone you can love or hate and have a real reason to.Nobody bitched when bj licked sherk's blood after the fight..How about tito digging a grave for ken? I thought GSP's "this loss is the best thing that could happen to him" was a little assholish to say as well..Doesn't sound too "respectful"..Last night's UFC was one of the better one's I have seen in awhile.

Yeah, his strength was just unreal, I agree he needs more training, he needs something that will make him exciting to watch. Herring had no chance last night, he could do nothing. If Lesnar gets something more to him, like a more complete striking game and some submissions he could be something to bring excitement to the heavyweight division. I won't say I respect or don't respect him, but I was intrigued enough to want to see the fight.

I still don't know what to make of his antics. There's fighters who jump around, there's Anderson Silvas little dance afterwards, and all of that is just part of the sport. I think people are so critical of Lesnar because of where he came from, because of that WWE background, he's now looked at like he's going to carry that attitude to the octagon. The thing is, these guys get paid a percentage of the PPV sales, so anyone who's on a card with him should be happy.

I would like to see the guy get more depth, this wasn't like Kimbo Slice were you saw a brawler who was completely outmatched and go lucky, this is an incredibly strong individual who can wrestle better than most. If he gets some more martial arts into his game and a solid striking game he could be a beast. I mean, if he gets better striking, who would want to stand up with someone that strong? I sure as hell know I wouldn't.

Overall, I thought the night lived up to the hype, there were a lot of good fights, and the card lived up to expectation, something that rarely happens with UFC PPV's.

Do you realize that we basically agreed on something related to mma?

Shamrock Gets Next Shot at ?Slice?

Ken Shamrock (Pictures) will be the fourth man to face Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson (Pictures) when the two icons clash at EliteXC?s third installment of ?Saturday Night Fights? Oct. 4 at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla. The headlining bout will anchor a live broadcast on CBS.

Sherdog.com confirmed the bout?s signing with multiple parties aware of the fight, while a press release is expected to circulate later today with the news.

The 44-year-old Shamrock (26-13-2) beat out fellow candidates Sean Gannon and Brett Rogers (Pictures), who called out Slice in May, for the coveted slot.

Shamrock, a 15-year veteran of the game who made his storied Octagon debut at UFC 1 in November 1993, has dropped his last five bouts in a row since 2005, including a lackluster showing against brawler Robert Berry (Pictures) at Cage Rage 25 last March.

However, ?The World?s Most Dangerous Man? exudes substantial selling power for a match now only five and a half weeks away. A strong personality in and out of the cage, Shamrock?s 15 appearances in the UFC earned him international recognition alongside his original nemesis Royce Gracie (Pictures).

Slice (3-0) earned a third-round victory against Brit James Thompson (Pictures) in his last foray for EliteXC in May. The bout was much criticized for its questionable officiating, placing Ferguson?s skill set in doubt after Thompson held the advantage for sizable stretches of the 11-minute contest. Ferguson holds previous wins over David "Tank" Abbott (Pictures) and Bo Cantrell (Pictures).

Good Call StarBucks lol jk. Kimbo against another aging past his prime fighter....hmmm...weird.

LOL... I posted that after I talked to my boy that fights on the same team as him. He does smoke a ton of hash and think the New World Order is taking over the world soon though too. At least he got the date right :)
