Mixed Martial Arts (Official Thread)

Not very impressive fight for either silva or cormier. Cormier wins by decision but neither did much. Silva landed a nice kick towards the end of the fight but Cormier proceeded to hug (as he should have). Thoughts on the fight..Jones would have murdered him.

Also, kind of disappointing Anderson didn't open up more. I realize he took the fight on two days notice with the LHW 1# contender, but I really think Cormier would have struggled with him striking actually. The kick in the 3rd round is the most impressive strike of the fight for either fighter, and silva wasn't even training for the fight. Signs of age suck to see. It's fair to say prime anderson at least striking wise, would Cormier all kinds of trouble.

Only turned the stream on to watch Lesnar. I don't follow UFC, but that Silva/Cormier fight was boring as [Mark May].

That's how most of Cormier's fights are. I understand all fighters have their own style, but he's boring as fuck to watch.

Agree with @powerlifter that Jones would've worked Cormier. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll ever see that rematch.

Brock did what he needed & took the fight to the ground. No chance he wanted to stand and trade with Hunt, as it likely would've been a short night. Will be interesting to see what his next move is. I'm going to assume we'll see more of him in the octagon....solely based on the competitor that he is.

All in all, I thought it was an ok card. It was built up to be the greatest of all time, which it certainly appeared to be on paper (prior to Jones getting popped), so it was rather difficult to live up to those expectations. This was the first PPV card I've bought in awhile...not sure I'll buy another one anytime soon...though 202's card does look rather impressive.

Should have been expected. Silva took that fight on Wednesday or Thursday. 2-3 days to prepare for a fight is no bueno.

Yea the windows for punches open and close so fast it's crazy. These guys are trained killers with their hands pretty much, and it's totally understandable why people don't want to take huge risks. I'm sure the lesnar/Hunt fight won't win over a lot of people due to lack of action but it really was an excellent plan for Lesnar. There was very little time he spent within Hunt's reach and didn't stand flat footed in front of him more then once or twice. I thought maybe his ego would get the best of him and try to exchange with Hunt, which would have lead to an obvious KO. When lesnar has people spread out on the ground the best thing any opponent can hope for is for the ref to stand them up. Hunt has a hell of a chin so it's fair to consider that most heavyweights(even now) will be in deep shit when he's on top of you. Lesnar hasn't fought in 5 years so that has to be considered into this fight.

Miesha tate just got her ass beat all around. I figured she wouldn't have the title long. I wonder how long it will be before Dana White has Rousey on the phone to try to get the title back to a more sexual appealing/popular female.

Yea,Cormier imo,was a lot more interesting to watch in strikeforce when he fought as a heavyweight. He really does have great hands(speed and power)and amazing wrestling. However,it seems he now fights overly cautious and it really is not that entertaining. It'd be a reasonable guess that the assbeating Jones handed him before has gotten into his head a little bit.We pretty much have to accept the fact that the best fighter in the world likes sniffin coke, smokin weed, getting shitfaced drunk and driving and also using ped's. There's nobody really even close to him imo.

I,also wonder about Brock. It's in Dana's best interest to make a pitch to get him back into the octagon. Nobody sells tickets like Lesnar and the guy honestly seemed happy to fight. His post fight interview was very classy and he seemed really happy to be fighting again. Almost like he was happy enough not to put on his persona he uses. He even dedicated a brief moment to talk about the police/race issues going on in this country. You have to wonder how big of a fight (regardless of rankings) White will be willing to throw at him to get him in the octagon permanently. I wouldn't be too stunned at anything considering the lack of star power and Lesnar's obvious bargaining advantage.

Just bringing the thread up to date. The ufc was sold last week for 4 bil after being bought for 2 mil. Lesnar tested positive for a banned substance yesterday. Mark Hunt as of yesterday wanted half the purse but then changed his mind to wanting "all of it" earlier. To me it sure looks like dana stuck it to whoever bought the company imo. I'm not sure exactly why Jones couldn't fight but Lesnar could. Oh yea,and don't think we'll be so lucky to not see Dana anymore he's still in for 10 percent and is going to be the face of the sport.

Looking forward to the rematch tonight. I finally watched the whole first fight last week. As much as I like McGregor I'm not sure that he'll be able to do anything different, especially since Diaz has had a full camp this time.

Bump with the news of GSP returning & Cyborg being cleared to return....

Interested to see who GSP will face first. More than likely it will be the Woodley-Thompson winner, but that could be an extended wait if either of them are banged up or if it's as close as their first fight, bringing on a trilogy. Maia is also deserving of a title shot, so I wouldn't mind seeing GSP & Maia square off for the #1 contender spot. The Bisping vs. GSP "super fight" chatter doesn't interest me at all. Bisping needs to face the contenders within his own division first (Romero & Souza).

I'm not sure what the UFC was thinking with creating the Women's Featherweight division. I get it was 100% for Cyborg, but there's no one there to really challenge her lol. I assume she would be next in line for a title shot, but de Randamie said she expects to have surgery on her hand.

Meh. If I was Romero or Jacare, I'd be furious. GSP returns & immediately gets a title shot in a division he wasn't even a part of. I understand the UFC wanting to make the big money fights, but it's making the titles and #1 contenders meaningless.
