Game Thread Minnesota @ Ohio State - 10/13/18, 12:00PM (FS1)

Yesterday put some things in context, with so many top team's struggling, but coming back and reading a bit more about the game is really disheartening. Especially opinions from people who have a better idea of what to look for.

Really thought this team would start to click on D as they got reps against mediocre teams, but instead they look the same. So disappointing that so many glaring issues take so fucking long to be addressed. When you only have a year window with certain talents like Haskins, Meyer has to do much much better when making staffing decisions.

For the second week in a row, maybe third week in a row, defensive adjustments have shut teams down even with starters missing. That's a sign of good coaching. With all the injuries on defense there is a lack of chemistry there so we need guys to get healthy. Will it happen?

It better happen. Every game from here on In will be very intense. Opposing teams are honing in on our weaknesses. I think the defensive adjustments well come, but the biggest concern will be the offensive line. If they cannot get it together then we are in trouble. How much more can we expect out of Haskins. His tank is almost dry. We need help real bad.

Gophers were still moving the ball almost at will in the second half. Turnovers and missed FGs was the best defense.

Well I decided to trot on over to a Cryami Hurricanes Message board(canesinsight.com), and boy do I feel better about being a Buckeye fan . All the talk of firing Richt gave me a good chuckle, and watching a team with god awful OL play, made me feel a tad bit better about our bad OL play. I much rather be siting at 7-0, and a place at the CFP table, than an also-ran with a fan base(hello Cryami and Texas) wanting to implode the coaching staff. We all know the issues of this team, and it gets utterly frustrating to watch. IDK if firing a coach mid season will help, IDK if the messages are getting through to the players. I just don't know where the hunger has gone with this team. I figured the ZS/Urban saga would ignite a fire in them, and all it did was ignite them for a game or 2, and then they have kind of settled and become complacent.

I bitched early on last year about the LB coaching, said then we had the talent but every LB was making similar mistakes, which screamed COACHING. Well this year I see the same damn mistakes. This ass clown does not know what it is supposed to look like, no doubt in my mind. He doesn't understand the execution. Would love to see Marcus Freeman on this staff. Cincy's LBs are playing better than our 5 star super athletes. What the fuck does that tell you?

Won’t lie. The improvement of UC’s defense, specifically the LB’e, under Freeman in year 2 is significant. Very happy about that.

8. The crowd was horrible all game. No noise and for fuck sake learn how to wait until a timeout to go to the bathroom. I almost slapped someone

Same. I was on the aisle in row 11 in A-Deck (with a hearty thanks to @Buckeyeskickbuttocks for the tickets!) and I could not believe the constant stream of people up and down the stairs during gameplay. I swear some of these motherfuckers literally waited for the TV timeout to be over and then started their way down. It was incessant. I ended up watching almost everything on the north end of the field on the scoreboard because there were always people in the way.

They need to go the hockey route and tell people to pound sand if they try to go to their seats during gameplay. There are enough tv timeouts that they won't miss much.

It's been back and forth between the LB's and Safeties all year for worst performing unit. This week I think it swung back to the LB's.

Very much an Iowa-like game. Losing TE's all over the place in coverage, continued poor run fits, receiving the blow instead of hitting and driving.

My disappointment is more general; this was the stretch of the schedule to get healthy, work on things and improve. They did the exact fucking opposite of that.

I don't consider it to be excessive to wonder if they will with the B1G East at this point.

Talent is clearly there but trending in the wrong direction with actual performance.

I'll echo what others have said and mention Ohio Stadium wasn't exactly fearsome yesterday. Disappointing, but...I had great seats and great friends with me so it's hard not to enjoy moments like that. Buckeyes play did test my patience.

As said, on the field, that game was a complete regression in virtually every facet (Haskin's passing being the lone exception)- OLine didn't block (Prince was a mess), WRs dropped a couple, RBs couldn't get consistent yards, DLine was coasting, LBs were lost, slow and weak and the secondary struggles continued. Coaching and playcalling was uninspiring- little things like not being properly lined up right out of a timeout. Everyone seemed to be asleep and that's frustrating this time of year.

The confusion on the offensive sidelines at times has me once again questioning the number of cooks in the kitchen.

It was Lori Schmidt that asked Meyer this week if he felt more comfortable in 3rd and 7 (passing down) than he does on 3rd/4th and 1 (typical rushing). All Meyer could say was "Third and one is tough right now" and he may have to look into passing more in those situations. I know my obvious answer. Let's crank this Texas Tech offense up to 11, until defenses change their strategy...I'll take a KJ Hill cross or stick or out route and keep the chains moving. You can't keep running into a wall.
