Military Uniform Discussion (moved from Briles thread)

1. I know I watch certain games with scarlet tinted glasses, but am I the only one who sees more of what could be called "unsportsmanlike" conduct behavior on the part of Baylor than most other teams - Miami her-a-canes excepted - . One hit on a Sooner running back who was being held while second man lowered his head and went helmet-on-helmet would have gotten a 15 yarder, removal from game and suspension from the next game in the Big Ten, PAC12, or the ACC. Here it got nothing, even when the asshole then proceeded to verbally assault the runner.

2. Well it's Texas and even the college boys have to prove their men. "Yep you should have seen the cross fire they set up when we hit LZ Albany. That's why I still wear this Stetson here at Baylor." "I hear you. We were sitting ducks when the Japs closed in on Corrigidor. that's why I still stomp around aTm in pinks and greens." I sure wish TRADOC would step in and tell ROTC to cease allowing faux soldiers to put on unauthorized uniforms and parade around the sidelines. If you aren't currently assigned to a cav unit, or a certified cav unit vet, you don't wear a stetson and you sure as fuck don't wear a stetson with desert cammo. If you weren't in the 1937 Army get rid of the breeches and pinks and greens. If you aren't in ROTC get the fuck out of the band and drinking
society dressed in riding boots.

3. Dear NCAA and NFL, football is a tough game. One that takes skill, stamina and discipline, BUT it ain't even close to combat. Don't insult our forces and our veterans by dressing your teams and coaches in camo. Leave that to those who have earned the right to wear it.

my nephew is a master Sargent in the Army...I have several pictures of him in a stetson AND desert cameo...just sayin'

Pretty sure if they are assigned to a Cav regiment they are authorized to wear a stetson....we don't know if these people were or not though....

I've always found the Army's plethora of special snowflake uniform modifications to be a bit silly.

Aggie's "Cadet" uniforms don't appear to be actual military uniforms to me? At least the ones I've seen... I suspect that takes them out of the realm of DOD supervision/input/whatever.

In general, I don't like seeing ROTC wearing camo... they should be wearing service uniforms around campus every tues/thurs or whatever it is. But alas, it's nationwide. There is no reason to wear camoflauge in public on home soil -- the citizenry is not the enemy.

Aggie's "Cadet" uniforms don't appear to be actual military uniforms to me? At least the ones I've seen... I suspect that takes them out of the realm of DOD supervision/input/whatever.

Are you talking about ROTC or in general?

Both, but esp ROTC since they're the primary offender.
If you're going to/from your duty station and live off base/reservist/whatever, then it's all gravy. If you're having a few drinks or the bank after work... not impressed but I'll live.
If you're a ROTC - particularly ones that haven't even finished OCS yet - and walking around in camo at a University? Hell no. I especially like how they use the alice/molly pack to carry their books and axe hair spray around too.

Gotcha. The few drinks after work issue I have only seen once and it was an Air Force major at Fricker's close to Wright-Patterson. The Army has rules about uniform after COB (1700). People still whined and you will see assholes in Wal-Mart at 2000 picking up all kinds of shit. The backpack is a pet peeve of mine. Same with the unit t-shirts on the weekend off post or the [enter new mil specific t-shirt company] wearer walking around like he just kicked Rhonda Rousey in the face.

Problem is that the army dropped their Class A Green Uniform and went with fatigue/BDU/ACU uniform for everyday wear. As usual, with uniforms, the Navy and the Marines got it right and the Army gets it wrong.

Uh, they wear their camo uniform, too. I do not want to wear the Class B every damn day. No thank you. With as often as you go from office to training area to office. Nope.

I saw the bar thing a lot around JBLM in Tacoma, but eventually got over it.
Even when I was Guard, if we were going out somewhere I'd change first. Most people did... not everyone. Then again, some had to drive ~hour ... but most of those would bring their uniform and change at work.
