Military Uniform Discussion (moved from Briles thread)

I always liked how the office desk Navy guys wore their khaki uniforms. Not sure if they still do that or went full camo... but always thought Marine admin should've gone the same route instead of trying to convince everyone they're "hardcore", "we're groundside, not airwing", etc.

They still have them, but you rarely see them worn. Apparently everyone in the Navy gets them now, not just CPOs and officers...the difference is that E-6s and below wear black pants with the khaki shirt, whilst CPOs and officers wear all-khaki.

It's just a uniform.

True, but the uniform should fit the duty. Obviously, there will more a higher percentage wearing camos for their normal duties in the Corps the in the Air Force, but all staff/office workers should be wearing what you'd call Service B or C.

We are prejudiced against wearing utilities out in town because it was pounded into our heads culturally. I think it looks tacky & I've given people hell about it over the years but that doesn't mean that it is actually a bad thing from an objective standpoint. It's little different than bickering with the doggies over which way sleeves should be rolled.

No argument from me on this point. Even in the Air Force, we were prohibited from wearing fatigues/BDUs off base except for "necessary quick stops" directly on the way to/from work location up until the mid/late '90s. My point is more that there's no need for a personnel specialist sitting at a desk or a medical tech maintaining records to be wearing camos, or flight crews wearing flight suits when they aren't on flight status.

Yes and your point is? Cammies have been the working uniform for the majority of the 'Corps since Commandant Gray saw the advantage in fostering the warrior ethos. Train like you fight etc.

Whether or not you are authorized to wear them at Stuckeys & play pocket pool just like SPC [Mark May]bag isn't really the point.

If you'd read the conversation at all, you'd realize that's exactly the point.
We weren't talking about what people wear on duty in base**, but how they shouldn't be worn out in public... ie: at Suckeys playing pool
