Mike Vick (Pittsburgh Steelers)

False Vick will still be the QB behind a center in prison. He has the street cred combined with money and fame to buy himself a gang in prison for protection. On top of that he isn't in too bad of shape to defend himself. Wouldn't be suprised to see someone take a stab at him though.

because of his fame he would be in administrative segregation to protect him from the general population wherever he goes

If Vick decides to enter into a deal with the feds, I would guess that part of the deal would be that he does his time in a minimum security federal "prison"......more like a vacation spot.....where they send all the people who committ "white collar" crimes such as tax invasion and such.....I would be shocked if he got a deal and went to a major prison....

Don't forget he has herpes, that might get him a pass on a gang rape or two.

God I hate to agree with tibs here, but what about the chick who got 7 months for wacking her husband? Vick should get more time than that? give me a friggin break.

The guy should get a year, do 6-9 months of it and have Peta after his ass forever, sorry a dogs life is not better than a persons life, regardless of circumstance.

Ding me if you want, that's my thoughts.

Not going to ding you and I don't disagree with the sentence you are recommending necessarily, but you might just want to consider that logic. Aren't you using an isolated abnormal sentence to justify your argument and then comparing apples with oranges?

Remember folks, he's going to Federal Prison. It's a lot different than the state pen you see in Shawshank Redemption. Not a country club, but definitely nothing like a state penitentiary. Certainly no gang rapes, and no real harden criminals around either. He'll probably be shacked up with Richard Hatch (which in itself is pretty mortifying).

I happened to catch the reporter on ESPN News at the courthouse. She said Vick and the other 2 thugs hung the dogs and some still weren't dead. They then put their heads in a 5 gallon container with water in it until they died. If a jury ever hears stories like these, Vick will get the maximum. I'd love to see this moron decline the plea deal and let's put it on tv. Then all those sponsors that gave Vick millions can run and hide. All those Vick lovers in Atlanta could get a chance to see what their hero is all about.

yeah, 5 years for killing animals. What a great justice system. He would have been better off killing somebody while drunk.

Yeah, agreeing with Tibs is hard to do, but, seriously, this is about dogs. I'm not at all advocating animal cruelty or dog fighting or anything, I personally think its disgusting, but years in prison for dogs? I'm as liberal as people come, but the energy PETA puts into animal cruelty would be MUCH better spent focusing on the myriad HUMAN rights violations that occur every day all over the world.

Just heard this too. Not to sound callous, but no matter how they killed the dogs, its going to sound disgusting. I know its apples and oranges, but we hear about waterboarding in gitmo or torture of POWs in Iraq, and its about 5 minutes of news, but people are really really upset about dogs being hurt.

Of course, the actual charges are more like RICO laws that have to do with gambling, but the news coverage is all about the animal cruelty.

I guess y'all can ding me too - I'm not aiming my comments at anyone, just trying to add to the dialogue.

Virginia to Prosecute Vick and others.

Yet another shoe drops, and Poindexter grows a pair.
Michael Vick's problems didn't end with his former friends and co-defendants pleading guilty and alleging that he funded a dogfighting ring and helped them execute dogs that failed to show the gameness to fight.
Virginia Commonwealth Attorney Gerald Poindexter told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Friday afternoon that "yes, indeed, we will prosecute" Vick and others on possible animal cruelty and dogfighting charges. Poindexter said he would probably submit his case to a grand jury that is scheduled to convene Sept. 25.
So, I wonder if this means concurrent or consecutive sentencing should Vick and the others go to trial (or cop yet another plea)?

It's ok, we all have the face the burden of agreeing with Tibs at some point in our time here at BP

But while I think you are correct about the sentencing time if it were just animal cruelty, I think there are or will be some racketeering charges and RICO stuff that Vick will get into if he turns down this plea deal.

That will add up to much more than 1 year.

Don't let the agreeing with Tibs thing bother you though, it's only temporary I promise :p

I don't think he should end up having to serve a day over two years. I mean look at this NFL player:

After a drunken birthday in 1998, NFL star Leonard Little crashed into and killed another motorist, Susan Gutweiler. When tested, his blood alcohol level measured 0.19 percent. Little received 90 days, four years probation and 1000 hours of community service. Six years later, after the involuntary manslaughter conviction was wiped from his record, Little was again arrested for drunk driving and speeding. Little was acquitted of those charges. On Week 11 of the 2006 NFL season, Little signed a 3-year extension with the Rams.
