Surrounding himself with friends didn't keep Michael Vick from being caught up in a dogfighting furor.


The crooked circle Michael Vick drew around himself has tripped and squeezed him.
The first to fail Vick was Davon Boddie, a cousin and personal chef. His marijuana-possession charge in April led police to a white house with black buildings behind it on Moonlight Road in Surry County, Va.
The first to flip on Vick was Tony Taylor, a fast friend from Newport News, Va., with an arrest record for drug trafficking and a traffic record for reckless driving. He pleaded guilty last month in the macabre dogfighting case that has consumed the NFL.
The latest to betray Vick is Quanis Phillips, a friend since middle school. Along with Purnell Peace, Phillips, who once served jail time on a drug charge, accepted a plea deal Friday and implicated Vick as the owner and operator of a dogfighting ring. Sporting News indicating an 18-36 month offer as government's part of plea bargain.

A plea deal that would send Michael Vick to prison for 18 to 36 months in relation to a dogfighting operation is on the table, CNN reports. Vick's attorneys want to get that reduced to less than a year and also want to hear from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell before they accept any bargain, sources said. A grand jury was convened Monday in Richmond, Virginia, after Vick's co-defendants provided statements that the football player helped kill dogs that didn't fight well and that all three men participated in killing dogs by means of hanging and drowning. The statements also indicated that the financing for Bad Newz Kennels came "almost exclusively" from Vick. If he doesn't accept a plea deal quickly, Vick could face more charges.

After consulting with his family over the weekend, Michael Vick ask that I announce today that he has reached an agreement with Federal prosecutors regarding the charges pending against him.

"Mr. Vick has agreed to enter a plea of Guilty to those charges and to accept full responsibility for his actions and the mistakes he has made.

Michael wishes to apologizes again to everyone who has been hurt by this matter. The legal team and Mr. Vick will appear in court in Richmond on August 27."

RICHMOND, Va. (NBC) - Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick has accepted a plea deal — and a likely prison sentence — to avoid additional federal charges related to a professional dogfighting operation, one of Vick's attorneys said, NBC News reported Monday.

A press conference was scheduled for 3 p.m. ET Monday.

Vick will enter a guilty plea to the felony conspiracy charge next Monday (August 27) at 10:30 a.m. ET, said Lawrence Woodward, one of Vick's defense attorneys, NBC News reported.

U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson, who is presiding over the case, said he has the leeway to sentence Vick and his co-defendants as he deems fit and is not bound by the recommended sentences given to him by the prosecution, USA Today said.

CNN also said that Vick's attorneys are hoping to hear from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Monday about what options would be available to the Atlanta Falcons star quarterback if he does accept a plea deal.

A grand jury is scheduled to convene Monday in the federal court where Vick and three co-defendants were indicted on dogfighting charges last month.

There’s no indication whether the grand jury will take up further allegations against Vick, although federal prosecutors have said they plan to seek a superseding indictment in the case.

That would mean more charges against Vick, the lone defendant who has not been convicted now that all three of his co-defendants have reached plea deals.

Vick’s attorneys were negotiating with federal prosecutors last week, hoping to strike a deal on a plea agreement.

“It seems to be a pretty clear indication there will be some sort of plea entered,” Falcons owner Arthur Blank said Friday.

Prosecutors have declined to comment outside court on negotiations with Vick’s attorneys. Collins Spencer III, a spokesman for Vick’s defense team, said Sunday there was nothing new to report.

Vick’s last two co-defendants pleaded guilty Friday and said he bankrolled gambling on dogfights at Vick’s property in rural Surry County, not far from his hometown of Newport News. One said Vick helped drown or hang dogs that didn’t do well.

Quanis Phillips of Atlanta and Purnell Peace of Virginia Beach entered plea agreements and agreed to testify against Vick. Tony Taylor of Hampton struck a similar deal last month.

The gambling allegations alone could trigger a lifetime ban under the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

The NFL has barred Vick from the Falcons’ training camp but has withheld further action while the league conducts its own investigation.

Peace, Phillips and Taylor pleaded guilty to the same charges facing Vick: conspiracy to travel in interstate commerce in aid of unlawful activities and conspiracy to sponsor a dog in an animal fighting venture.

The offense is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Sentencings are set for November and December.

Inconsequential. He's finished with pro football. No franchise will risk the public backlash for giving him a shot after he makes an admission on the dog fighting charge. No chance. Aside from that, there's the gambling issue, which is an NFL no-no that will probably bar him from ever returning even if a GM would take the risk. And then, even beyond that, there's the reality that he wasn't a very good QB to begin with, and his return wouldn't be until after a minimum of two-years off.

He's through.

Are Indians mauling children and raised to be violent? If so, yeah, off them too. Pit bulls are an absurd, useless breed of dog bred simply for the garbage Vick's involved in. There is no merit to the breed.

Pretty much, plus there's no idea of what the NFL penalty will be yet either. You know Goodell isn't going to let his suspension run alongside his jail term. So if he's not in the league for 3 years, and even if he could come back, he's 30 and hasn't seen the field in over 900 days.

Done, sorry Atlanta Falcons fan, not going to be your year, but odds are you'll be really high on the draft next year, maybe a different #1 pick will work out for ya.

Pit bulls have a bad reputation, but they can be really nice dogs, when not put in the hands of assholes. Just like any breed, it's all about proper training. In fact, the pit bull that was owned by Qyntel Woods was adopted by someone who trained it properly, and the dog was reformed from a fighting dog to a lap dog. Pit bulls are used as therapy dogs, too. It's a shame that assholes have given the dogs a bad rep, because they really can be sweethearts.
