Mike Leach (HC Mississippi State, a National Treasure, R.I.P.)

Surprised this didn't get some play.
Personally, I'm unimpressed... but mostly with the other person who was a glorified accountant for State Dept in Iraq and whose fleeting philosophy can be summed up as "winning hearts and minds".

I'm very interested in the concept of football-as-strategy and warfare implications, however. Something more like Three Block War meets Maneuver Warfare meets top-shelf Football strategy.
I don't think it's a stretch to suggest that, given the military's crisis sourcing elite athletes, that... were something to happen in the coming decades... pro/semi-pro athletes - football in particular - would instantly become the source for Operators. They have the discipline, tactics, team mentality, work ethic, unit cohesiveness, competitive drive, and... most importantly (because it can't be trained/taught)... the DNA.
At the same time, all military hierarchy becomes bloated with political appointees in times of peace (or relative peace). When a big war comes, there's generally a transition period of 12-18 months... for those political hacks to be exposed, escorted out of the building. And another 12-18 months for the cream to rise to the top... from which, I would not be surprised if some elite Coordinators and Coaches found themselves wearing birds and stars leading 18-25yr olds from the front... and with some skill.

In the wake of negative headlines from the Leach drama and the untrue claims about James killing prostitutes that still exist in his Google profile, James theorized to Texas Monthly that there’s “a group of people who would like to see me come down.” He added: “They don’t like that I’ve been a dad and I’ve been there for my kids. They don’t like that I’ve been in the spotlight but haven’t stumbled.”
