Word is NetFlix support appears to be visibly neutered. Columbia pictures/Sony properties are completely absent from the NetFlix/NXE library.
How does the subscription work?

Is it simply an add-on for netflix users? Are there any restrictions on streaming while you have a real DVD rented at your house?

Any limit to amount of consecutive streaming?

XNE looks pretty cool.. although I do think Playstation Home (rumored to open the last stages of closed Beta tomorrow [pretty legit/strong rumor] and opening in the coming weeks) will be much better than XNE.
I don't have high hopes for it. The demos of Home I saw looked clunky and over-realistic/Second Life'ish. Bad idea if that is still the route they're going.

Avatars are a pretty blatant ripoff of the mii look, just with next gen graphics (and less absurd proportions).

The overall interface is a lot sharper than the old one, even if the avatars are cheesy.

I think the NXE avatars look very good. This is my fear of Sony's Home ... that its too realistic and needlessly complicated. If I have to spend 2 hours wading through options to make my Home avatar look right -- like creating a profile in Tiger Woods or Fallout 3 -- I probably won't even bother.

Less is more, and NXE looks like they got it right.

They're polished, but I'm not sure I like that everyone is going to have the same basic look.

Personally, I would rather have avatars that could be uploaded from a PC. It's not so much that they're bad, I just like more freedom. They are certainly a big upgrade over the 'pay to download unoriginal avatar' system from before.

Yeah, I got the update this morning, the avatars seemed pointless to me, but I guess some people like them. When I get home I am going to try out netflix and see how that works. Honestly, as hard as they pushed this update, so far it just seems like a new look more than anything else. The load from HD seems cool, I am sure it would take away the delay on game load, but I don't really see a need for it unless I break down and get the 120 gig hd.

I think saving to HD is supposed to cut down on system noise. Once the game is installed it only runs the disk once and then the rest of the game is from the HD. Which cuts down on the noise that the optical drive makes when playing games..
