Michigan State Spartans (official thread)

If Title IX actually does anything here, then they'd damn well better explain their inaction with the Pedsters & the Bears.

If I'm interpreting this correctly, Title IX is not enforced by the NCAA

Who is responsible for enforcing Title IX?

Institutions are responsible for complying with federal laws. The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) of the U.S. Department of Education enforces Title IX. OCR has the authority to develop policy on the regulations it enforces. In regard to athletics programs, OCR developed an Intercollegiate Athletics Policy Interpretation that was issued December 11, 1979. The 1979 Policy Interpretation remains current policy. On April 2, 1990, OCR issued an athletics policy document called "Title IX Athletics Investigator's Manual" that has assisted athletics departments with enforcement and compliance issues with Title IX. Anyone may file an OCR complaint, and the identity of the party who files the complaint will be kept confidential.

Mark Dantonio labels reports that he’s resigning ‘absolutely false’

619039202.jpg

Below is the entirety of the statement Dantonio read to the media addressing the day’s developments:

During this extremely difficult and challenging time for our community, I would first like to express our deepest sympathies and my deepest sympathies to the courageous survivors of Larry Nassar’s abuse. It was absolutely heartbreaking to hear their stories and the pain and suffering they went through, and we are only in the beginning stages of the healing process for the community and even more importantly for the survivors and their families.

I have received many questions and inquiries about today’s reports and the latest reports. I’m here tonight to say that any accusations of my handling of any complaints of sexual assault individually are completely false. Every incident reported in that article was documented by either police or the Michigan State Title IX office. I have always worked with the proper authorities when dealing with cases of sexual assault.

We have always had high standards in this program, and that will never change. The values that we teach to everyone in this program will be enforced. We’ve also always tackled problems here head-on and have dealt with issues. When you find out about the problems, it has come from the police or the university authorities. I can assure you as in last year’s incident, I also immediately reported that to the proper authorities.

That’s really all I have to say. I want to thank you for your time. You know, I’m advised against questions, but I feel completely steadfast in what I said today.

Mark Dantonio reportedly dealt with sexual-assault allegation against football player by having him talk to his mother

Former Michigan State sexual-assault counselor Lauren Allswede detailed the story to ESPN’s Outside the Lines. It was one of many examples in the lengthy report that showed how Michigan State’s athletic department mishandled allegations of sexual abuse and violence in its programs.

Allswede told Outside the Lines that about seven years ago, an attorney from the university’s general counsel’s department came to her office to try to reassure her that coaches were taking allegations of sexual violence seriously. Allswede says the attorney told her how Dantonio, the football coach, had dealt with a sexual assault accusation against one of his players: He had the player talk to his mother about what he had done.

“That did not reassure me at all,” Allswede says. “There’s no guarantee that that had any effect, any help, whatever.”

Former Michigan State player, grad assistant Travis Walton placed on leave by Clippers’ G-League team, per report

ormer Michigan State basketball player and grad assistant Travis Walton has been placed on leave from his position as an assistant with the Clippers G League team “pending further investigation,” according to multiple reports.

Part of ESPN’s piece on Michigan State released on Friday detailed two separate accusations against Walton from 2010, while he was a graduate assistant with the Spartans basketball program. The first allegation was that he punched a female Michigan State student at a bar, after which he was arrested. Walton was allowed to travel with the team while his case was being litigated. The charges of assault and battery were ultimately lifted, and he pleaded guilty to littering.....

Later in 2010, Walton and two players were named in a sexual assault report made by a woman to the athletic department. He was fired, while the other players were not suspended or punished, according to ESPN.

Have to be careful with these sexual assault cases. No one really knows really know the details behind them. We've seen many phony assault claims against athletes through the years. Let's not rush to condemn people on unproven charges.

You may want to read a bit more about the MSU situation before tossing in a biased and wholly inapplicable thought like you've done here.
