Michigan ineligible player in PSU game

Big Ten may take 3 weeks to decide if Michigan is punished for ineligible player - NCAA Football - Yahoo! Sports

Might take a while for this to get resolved. Hopefully the fact that the school brought it to the attention of the conference, and not the other way around, will help keep the PSU game in the win column.

You think they'll let us redshirt the guy this year?

Actually I'm only half-joking with that, because it brings up this question: If Chambers is eligible under NCAA guidelines but not Big Ten standards (and I'll bet he's not the first in this situation) do players like him only get to play three years if they don't redshirt?

I'd think the fact that he played in a game, no matter that he was not eligible by conference rules would still mean he is counted as playing for the year. Truly a bad break if that interpretation holds - if it were the fact that he only played vs. PSU. But, he didn't. Chambers participated in every one of the first 4 games.

His season is done, and he wouldn't even be eligible for a medical redshirt brought on by the indigestion from TSUN's poor handling of his admission and eligibility. Chambers is certainly a victim of the AA AD's slip up on this score.

While the rest of you are debating the merits of this dispute, or the merits of search functions and the use or mis-use thereof, I am simply enjoying the fact that a shitstorm has overtaken our two principal rivals. I don't care about the merits of this one, or it's outcome. But it gives great pleasure to see tsun and Penn State continue to replay the past. So long as they are focused on what was, they may be less focused on what is coming. That is us.

JoePa wouldn't be thrilled about winning by forfeit over U-M
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Winning a game by forfeit doesn't appeal to Joe Paterno, even if it means a victory over nemesis Michigan.
So as the Big Ten sorts out whether the Wolverines should be disciplined for using an ineligible player during last month's 14-9 win over Penn State, Paterno is concentrating on trying to win games the old-fashioned way.
"I know we got licked," Paterno said. "I don't have any interest in it. We lost. That's up to somebody else to make the decision."
