Stroies from The Game!!!
I just got home...my throat hurts like hell. Man it's a great feeling to lose your voice like that knowing that you were part of a crowd that was definitely a 12th man today. I haven't watched any video of the game nor have I heard that much about the postgame...so I'm going to tell you how it was and what I think before I get to hear what everyone else thinks and see the game on video.
1. The Crowd: AMAZING. It was louder than I can recall. Louder than Penn State two years ago. Louder than Notre Dame in 1995. Everyone did their part. Henne's fumble in the 1st half on 3rd and 1 seemed to be all because of the crowd to me. I couldn't hear and I doubt he could hear. I think it was just a tough situation for the kid from PA. This crowd was so alive, that it was too loud for our offense and even they could hardly hear. I went to the scUM game last year...and let me tell you...there weren't half as many scUM fans at this game then there were Buckeye fans at last year's game. Except for their small sliver in the South Stands...it was all Buckeye scarlet and grey.
2. Troy Smith: Was this Michael Vick? Okay...maybe not THAT good...but by far the best running performance I can remember out of a Buckeye quarterback. Heck...I hardly remember the last time we've had a guy run the ball like that period, from any position. Not only did he run...he had great touch on a pass to Holmes on 3rd and 4 and he also had a accurate bullet to many recievers during the game. He also avoided a lot of sacks by throwing the ball away. There were a few times where he could have thrown to an open guy, but instead he just ran for a 1st down anyway...so if he can get the 1st down with his legs...then I could care less if somebody is open.
3. Teddy Ginn: He should have had 2 punt returns for TD. And I laugh when I say this...because really, any other human being would have had zero. The one he had just showed his flat out speed and agility. But for him to stay on his feet on the one that he took to midfield..WOW...that was almost as good as the TD. If he could have made one more move he would have had a touchdown there as well...and that would have been the most spectacular return in Buckeye history. If this guy isn't in New York next year for the Heisman, i'll be surprised.
4. The Defense: They weren't on the field very much in the 1st half. So they stayed fresh, stayed focused, never paniced, and executed better as the game went on. WE TACKLED VERY WELL!!! Force 2 turnovers in the second half...the second one didn't really matter. We stopped the run...like I said we would because we have been stuffing the run for 5 or 6 weeks now. Youboty is a shut down corner. I don't know who is more important to the team next year...him or Hawk. I'm glad they are both Buckeyes cuz they may be the 2 best returning defenders in the Big 10.
5. Last but not least....NUGE: 4/4 Extra Points 3/3 FGs...and he made two 65 yarders before the game warming up. He is amazing. Did scUM ever get the ball past the 20 after a kickoff? Our special teams is amazing! Thank Tressel for that because that's what he stresses. Sad to see Nugent go. Glad it was on a happy note. He will be missed. NUUUUUUUUUUUGE!
It was amazing to see us beat scUM for the 2nd time in a row in the Shoe. Tressel is 2-0 agianst scUM at home and 3-1 overall. We had nothing to lose...we played to win and the game was just so much fun. I screamed my heart out everytime scUM had the ball. I believed in Tresselball and his ability to run down the clock and hold on to a lead. Kyle Turano had an amazing punt that reminded me of Groom against Penn State. The seniors before the game got great ovations. They all deserved it. You couldn't hear the scUM band because everyone booed them until they were off the field, and TBDBITL was rocking The Shoe before the game and Script Ohio choked me up a little bit before the game because it's just an amazing sight. Tressel owns scUM and I love it. In Tressel I Trust!!!
GO BUCKS!!!!!!!!
scUM sucks...a lot!
