Michelle Wie - various topics

A new low for Ms. Wie. She withdrew from the Ginn Tribute tournament today. She was at +14 after 16 holes and said she was withdrawing because she 'tweaked' her recent wrist injury. On a very interesting note, the LPGA has a rule that bans nontour members for the year if they shoot 88 or higher. She would have reached that number with a bogey on each of the last 2 holes.

After she finished the 16th hole, on the way to the 17th tee, her manager stopped her, they chatted for a while, then she withdrew.

I don't buy the injury excuse. If her wrist was that bad, would she even be walking to the next tee? Doubtful. Her manager clued her in and they took the easy way out. At least this time it was a wrist injury and not the old "exhaustion" trick.

That's strange, I don't recall seeing Wie walking the course on her hands... :roll1:

You must not have the Golf Channel. :)

Point being, if her wrist was that bad, she would have just left after she finished her last hole. As it was, she was already walking to the next tee when her mgr. fed her the 88 oe over morsel.

I guess we'll see next week. They play a major and we'll see if that wrist heals amazingly enough for her to play there.

I have a feeling she'll tough it out, unless she starts playing bad, then it will 'tweak' again or she'll get exhausted.

Faking injury is a widely used way of getting out of an awful round in tournament golf. Its done all the way from junior golf up through the PGA tour. With that said, however, the 88 number is interesting. I think you are right that she was going to play it out until her manager spoke to her. As for withdrawing, who wouldn't? If you were faced with the very real possibility that you wouldn't be allowed on tour for a year why not WD. It's not the most admirable move in the history of golf but it beats the alternative (IMO).

Watching this loser fail over the next couple of years (hopefully) will be a joy to behold.

Wie's wrist fuels spat with Sorenstam before LPGA Champs

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A row between the world's two best known women golfers is raising the temperature for this week's LPGA Championship, with Annika Sorenstam saying Michelle Wie lacked class in dealing with a wrist injury.

Former world number one Sorenstam took issue with a decision by teenager Wie to withdraw from a tournament last week when she was 14 over par, citing a wrist injury, only to practice two days later.

"I just feel there's a little bit of a lack of respect and class just to leave a tournament like that and then come out and practice here," Sorenstam told a news conference.

At least if you're going to fake it, have the brains to hit balls somewhere other than at the next tourney 2 days later. Loser.

Quit reading how great you were. This isn't fucking Kansas. This isn't the amateur circuit. You're not Tiger with tits, you're more like Matt Kuchar with tits.

Deflate your head, learn how to putt and quit making excuses. You're not even in Morgan Pressels' league, let alone Annika's.

At least you're still hot.

They should prorate that number for the number of holes completed. (So 78 after 16 holes would also put you into the banned for a year catagory.) That would end any fake injuries because it wouldn't matter if you were hurt or not when you withdrew.

Wie shoots 11-over 83, in last at LPGA Championship

HAVRE DE GRACE, Md. -- Even against the men, Michelle Wie hasn't shot this big a number since she was in the ninth grade.

Wie's woes continued Saturday at the LPGA Championship when she shot an 11-over 83 at Bulle Rock, leaving her in last place by five shots among the 84 players who made the cut and uncertain if she would show up for the final round.

Her left wrist was clearly bothering her, and Wie had it wrapped in ice immediately after signing her scorecard. Asked if she would return Sunday, the 17-year-old from Hawaii said she wasn't sure.

"I really want to play," she said. "I think it would be awesome to get another round under my belt. I just have to see how it goes tonight. If you don't see me on the first tee tomorrow morning, you'll know."

It will be early Sunday if she's healthy enough to play.

Starting with a double bogey on the third hole when a gust sent her ball over the green and no one could find it, Wie struggled to make pars and rarely gave herself a chance at birdie. She made one birdie on the sixth hole from 5 feet.

It was her highest round since an 85 in the opening round of the CJ Nine Bridges Classic in South Korea in 2003, when Wie was 14 and a freshman in high school.
If you're hurt, get the hell out. If not, quit making excuses and play your round.

So Tiger doubles the first hole at Oakmont he should get DQ'd? I see where you're going but your idea wouldn't work.
