Michelle Wie - various topics

id disagree here, although wie can really strike the ball she has to put more force into it, two rounds of golf in a day with this pressure will wear on anyone. it will be interesting. i dont think major physical problems with the people trying to qualify while be as important as the mental aspect. also someone said she is trying to qualify at the shortest course.

Maybe I should have elaborated. I meant to say "mental fatigue". She's dealing with the pressure pretty well so far, but she also hasn't faced much adversity yet. It's really going to come down to whether she can continue to keep her composure over the next 18 holes like she's done up to this point.

Teens are amazingly resilient mentally, plus the fact she's been playing this game almost her whole life. She hasn't fallen apart before and she's already been in similar situations.

You have a point, I mean until last year wasn't Phil Mickelson the king of mental meltdowns?

I will admit, however, that more often than not the younger players have a more difficult time dealing with the pressures and are more suseptable to mental breakdowns than experienced golfers. Unless you were watching the Memorial of course

I disagree.

Courses today are designed longer than they once were. Improvements in technology only go far. The fact is that being able to crush the ball gives you more advantages in todays game of golf.

Wie hits the fall nearly as far, if not as far, as any tour player
Maybe I will look up her stats

Plus, being able to crush it ONLY gives you an advantage if you hit it straight
And even then, thats why they have different tee boxes
And the short game is the same for everyone, the greens are the same, the bunkers are the same

See, I don't get that. No one is trying to say that the women's tour and the men's tour are equal. Just as no one is trying to say that the senior tour is equal to the regular men's tour. But the seniors are allowed to come down and play with the regulars, while the regulars can't play senior tour events. So I fail to see the distinction between women stepping up and playing the men's tour.

I mean, we give the best of senior and womens' golfers an opportunity to compete with those they can compete against on a regular basis on the LPGA and Senior PGA Tours. But the best of the best (or the legends of golf like Jack) are also given an opportunity to try and compete to the top level players in the world at the big events.

Another analogy might by Roy Jones Jr. He jumped up to Heavyweight for a fight, but the heavyweights can't go down. Is there a problem with that?

Same reason that I do not think that girls should be in the cub scouts. What's good for the goose should be good for the gander.

If woman feel like they want to play on the mens tour, then men should be able to play on the woman's tour. That is only fair. They take spots and money from the men, it should work both ways.

If woman want to play on the PGA tour tout that is fine, then give up your LPGA card for at least a year and play on the mens tour for a season.

The senior tour is the same way. Either play on the Senior tour or the PGA, not both.

Having said that she is fun to watch and freeken rips the cover off the ball. If I had to pay money to play with any golfer I wanted Tiger would be #1, Jack would be #2 and she would be #3.

I would agree with your position that you play one tour or the other, but not both. However, the majors are clearly different. Plenty of regular senior tour players have played the majors while playing the regular senior tour.

I think women golfers should be held to the same standard as the seniors, neither more stringent nor lenient. I think that's only fair.

What is easy to forget when it comes to the hoopla over women vs. men is that this 'girl' is just 16. That's a pretty big 'wow'.

Its not a matter of "taking spots" away from anyone.
Men cannot and should not downgrade themselves to the womens tour.
The womens tour is there because the vast majority of them cannot play at the same level as the men; she however, can.
You dont take someones spot when you beat them head on, you are the better player (exactly what she is attempting to prove right now)...

For a qualifier you are correct. But Michelle or Annika at Coloniel that is incorrect. They bump a man to make room for a woman who does not hold a PGA tour card.

Hey, I have no issues with playing with the men. But there is a finite pool of $ that is spent on Mens golf for purses and sponsorships. If Michelle takes some of that money it comes directly out of some guy that is trying to pay his family's bills pocket. Compete full time or it should work both ways.
