The guy has been over-rated from the start. The year he won the SEC Defensive player of the year was also the year that the SEC defenses were found to be consistently over-rated (a trend which has continued)....add to that all of the significant stats he gained (sacks, TFLs, QB pressures) came almost entirely against super bad teams (Florida, Arkansas State and Vanderbilt accounted for 9 of his 11 sacks that year)...

There was a reason he was drafted in the 7th round. It's not because he's gay, it's because he isn't that good and his combine performance and his inability to stick in the NFL has proven this....

Michael Sam stepping away from football

Michael Sam, the first openly gay player to be drafted by the NFL, has decided to stop playing football.

Sam, who made his Canadian Football League debut for the Montreal Alouettes last week, wrote on Twitter today that he needs to focus on his mental health.

Entire article: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/08/14/michael-sam-stepping-away-from-football/

I wish the media would "step away" from reporting about him.

Hopefully the idiots who said/inferred that he slipped in the draft due to his orientation will stay away from reporting about football.

I wouldn't bet on it.
If you think his orientation had zip to due with his draft stock, I'd like to sell you my Trans-Pacific Bridge. I'm not saying it's right, but saying his being gay had no influence at all is naïve at best. Of course, no exec or coach in his right mind will even come close to admitting so...

You'd better start with an asking price....he sucked and the results on the field in multiple leagues has proven it so....

He was a tweener before anyone even cared he was Gay. He announced it, became a celebrity and that only somewhat covered the fact he's slow, he's undersized and he beat up on less than stellar competition on Mizzou's joke of a schedule.
