  • This kid needs to either get over himself, fire his agent, or both. His holdout seems to be entirely motivated by where he thought he would be picked, versus where he was picked. He was offered 5 years, $20 million with $16 million guaranteed. That is consistent with being the 10th pick, based on the contracts above and below him.

At this point he looks like another million dollar athlete with a ten cent brain, claiming he'll sit out and re-enter the draft next year. I didn't really think he meant it during preseason, but as week two approaches there's still no sign of him. Does anyone believe a year out of football is going to improve his draft stock?

Quite simply, no. He is costing himself millions. Maybe h just hates San Fran and doesn't want to be there? I don't know, and somebody may take a chance with him next year, but he almost assuredly will not go top 10 next year.

I totally agree. My question was largely rhetorical.

    Mike Williams...

I hope he goes in the 2nd round. Dude is a punk. I distinctly remember Mike Leach defending him and calling out the Browns after he interviewed with the orgainization and they came away highly unimpressed with his "King Sh!t" 'tude.

Was Leach wearing his pirate costume?

I'm a 49er's fan. What I want most is for the Niners to use one of their two first round picks on him again next year, and then do the exact same thing to him so he'll never play again. That would be excellent.

You mean the $15 million he could have made this year won't just magically show up next year?

Well it will, just not in Mr Crabtree's bank account! I think he is costing himself a ton of money because who is going to want to have to deal with him and his agent after this years debacle?

There are a lot of interesting view points on this. First, I agree that Crabtree needs to take the offer that they gave him if indeed it was a fair deal slotting him where he was drafted and there's no funny business in the contract offer a la Andre Smith's deal with Cinci. Secondly, Crabtree is not the first and definitely won't be the last player to holdout into the season. Part of this problem falls on the Niners for making a preceived poor decision in drafting him. Lastly, As Crabtree's former coach put it today with Dan Patrick:

Leach: Crabtree more of a "loner than a diva" | ProFootballTalk.com

Mike Leach, and he knows Crabtree better then anyone reporting on this story, feels that Crabtree needs to step into the contract talks and take more of a leadership role in them. He'll probably cave next week and sign and all will be forgotten. As always I think the truth pendulum falls somewhere in the middle of all this. Crabtree probably is a diva but he probably is not Chad Johnson, T.O., and a young Randy Moss all rolled in to one...is he?
