Looks like the Co-canes are in some trouble. I am betting CBS and ESPiN quickly forget about this and put their cross hairs back on our EVIL Buckeyes....

The NCAA has been active in South Florida over the past several months, sending investigators to various 7-on-7 camps and making connections with parents and coaches. One source added that the secondary focus of the look was on the recruiting methods of at least three SEC schools and a number of ACC schools in the area. It is unclear whether the two probes are connected but one person told CBSSports.com that the NCAA will be questioning several people connected to the Miami players, such as coaches and other "third parties" connected to them.

Those Nazi bastards at the NCAA need to be stopped!! :pissed:

Unless it is LSU, Georgia or Florida State....... in which case, bless those dauntless defenders of amateur athletics :paranoid:

Hope it's not the 10, because I vaguely remember hearing about this a year ago when the Ponzi scheme went down. Not exactly breaking news.

Unless they meant it was '6' when it first came out, then a '4' this time, so that equals 10.

"Miami cheats" could never be a ten even if the money was paid on UM check stock signed by Lebron James

I'll bet that Wiscy's bowl win over Miami after the 2009 season meant a lot to Barry Alvarez, since his family has supposedly lost over $1 million in Shapiro's ponzi schemes. Hey Barry, I'm sure that your friend Donna Shalala 'vouched for' Shapiro, since she's so closely involved in everything down there.

Let's compare - a few guys sold their own stuff to get some tattoos, as opposed to a booster (who gave at least $150,000 to the school and had his name on the student-athlete's lounge) giving cash amounts up to $10,000 to dozens of players, taking them to nightclubs and out on his yacht.

SI.com

In June, when Shapiro was sentenced, the U.S. Attorney's Office said he "used investor funds to make payments to dozens of student athletes who were attending a local university in the Miami area to which Shapiro made significant donations ... cash in amounts up to $10,000 and gifts such as jewelry and entertainment at nightclubs and restaurants in Miami Beach. As a result of a 10-year gift to the university, its Student-Athlete Lounge was named for Shapiro."

The University of Miami was not specifically mentioned in that release, but the school temporarily named its lounge for Shapiro. His name was removed in 2008 after the school said he did not follow his pledged donation-payment plan.

...Among the creditors listed as those who are owed money by Shapiro's company, Capitol Investments, are the university, the Heat and former Wisconsin football coach Barry Alvarez, along with members of his family. Alvarez has a close relationship with Shalala, largely from her time at Wisconsin.

Court records show Shapiro was accused of owing the Heat $732,348.49 for courtside seats he promised to buy, almost $600,000 of which were for future seasons. Alvarez's family has filed claims for at least $1 million. Miami has an outstanding claim of $40,000 surrounding a deal for a skybox lease.

Cont'd ...
