Miami can only hope the next month boosts its BCS hopes as much as its frequent-flyer account.
The Hurricanes' showdown Saturday with
Ohio State kicks off a three-game road swing that also includes trips to preseason Big East favorite
Pittsburgh and defending ACC Atlantic Division champion
Clemson. Miami follows that up by playing host to No. 17
Florida State, so the Hurricanes will face four bowl teams from last season in their first five games.
Allen Bailey and the Hurricanes are used to a tough start to the season. USC is the only other school from the six major conferences to leave home for three of its first four games, and its three road foes during that stretch (last Thursday's 49-36 victory at Hawaii, Sept. 18 at
Minnesota, Sept. 25 at
Washington State) aren't nearly as challenging as Miami's upcoming trips.
Many schools might complain about that gauntlet. Miami welcomes the challenge. After all, it's nothing new.
"We've played teams like that before," defensive end
Allen Bailey said this summer. "We can do it."
Indeed, Miami opened last season with four brutal matchups that had many writing off the Hurricanes before the season even started.
