Miami AD Eichorst says 'tough times ahead'
CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Miami athletic director Shawn Eichorst says "there are tough times ahead" for the Hurricanes amid a scandal that has rocked the school's football program and sparked an NCAA investigation.
Eichorst released a statement Thursday saying "serious decisions" will need to be made after claims that former booster and convicted Ponzi schemer Nevin Shapiro made in a Yahoo! Sports article this week. Shapiro says he provided Miami players with cash, prostitutes, cars and other gifts over the past decade.
"We will be left standing and we will be stronger as a result," Eichorst said.
"Know this for sure everyone hurts! We all feel pain!," defensive back Brandon McGee posted on his Twitter page at 6:29 a.m. ET Thursday, about 90 minutes before the Hurricanes took the field for the first of two scheduled practices.
Miami resumed practice with coach Al Golden saying his team is recovering from the "shock" of the claims former booster Nevin Shapiro made in a Yahoo! Sports article this week. Shapiro, now serving 20 years in federal prison for his role in a $930 million Ponzi scheme, said he provided Miami players with prostitutes, cars and other gifts over the past decade.

I agree with Eichorst. It will be tough to get along without cash, prostitutes, entertainment in multimillion-dollar homes and yacht, paid trips to high-end restaurants and nightclubs, jewelry, bounties for on-field play (including bounties for injuring opposing players), travel and abortions.

From my understanding, the NCAA has been saying for 20+ years that the "Death Penalty" is no longer an option because of the collateral damage to opponents, conference, etc. Instead of a nuke, they need more of a smart bomb.

I posted it yesterday - take them off TV for a couple of years (along with a bowl ban), and have them not receive a share of the conference's TV money.

It hammers the individual school, tries to minimize the collateral damage to other conference members, and gets the attention of every AD and school president/chancellor in the country when the $20 million hole shows up in an annual budget.

still hurts the teams that play them....let's just for argument purposes say this came out last year, and they were taken off TV, what would happen this year when we played them, then we can't watch OSU play cause of the fuckups of Miami

Attorneys could go after Miami Hurricanes players who received gifts

UM players might have to return gifts to lawyers seeking to recover funds from Nevin Shapiro?s Ponzi scheme.

Watch out, UM football stars allegedly regaled with lavish gifts from an imprisoned Ponzi schemer.
You might soon be sacked by a lineup of lawyers seeking to recover more than $100 million for investment victims of onetime University of Miami booster and convicted con man Nevin Shapiro.
Lawyers for a federal bankruptcy trustee said Wednesday they will pursue anything of real value that Shapiro allegedly gave to 72 current and former UM football players during the past decade. The lawyers made their move after Yahoo!Sports published a report detailing Shapiro?s alleged generosity with investors? money, including showering UM athletes with cash, prostitutes, cars, jewelry, restaurants, nightclubs and parties at his multimillion-dollar Miami Beach homes and yacht.
