I haven't gotten the chance to read the whole thing yet.....but you're assuming he isn't lying about his time frame. How possible is it that he is just protecting at least 1 crystal football?

Not very. They document when he became a booster and bought his first season tickets.

I was listening to an interview with the author from the Yahoo article and they asked him what this Shapiro gave him to collaborate the story and he said over 20,000 pages of documents; emails, credit card receipts, etc. He then proceeded to say that they cross referenced this to get the list of athletes down to 57(I think). Now that is some investigative journalism something the 4letter would never do.
I know Yahoo started all this shit with the Buckeyes and it pissed me off to start with but they were doing their job and from what I can tell they did it pretty well. I hate it but give them some credit for the work they are doing. They would be the last people I would want on campus anytime soon, or next to last.

you know what's sad? that's just BASIC journalism. but in this era of sports "journalism", it needs to be commended because it's so rarely done.

"I know what's going on in my athletic department."

That pic of Shalala is so bizzare it looks photoshopped. She's got the torso of Danny DeVito, and the calves of an 11 year old boy.

I'd also like to congratulate Yahoo on showing the rest of the market what real journalism looks like. Not just baseless poo flinging claims. Hours of investigation and facts to back up claims. Well done.

Miami: Prepare for insertion.

You know, a few months ago I was listening to ESPiN radio here in Vegas, and they had one of the Yahoo! guys on talking about OSU. (Steve Cofield, who writes for Yahoo!'s Cagewriter, an MMA column, is also one of our on-air personalities here in Vegas, so they've got the Yahoo! hookup.) At the end of the interview, they asked, "Anything else going on?" ...now this was back in March, when the OSU story really picked up steam. The Yahoo! guy, and it may have been Charles Robinson said something, and I'm paraphrasing here, but he said something like, "We're doing an investigation now, and it includes a Top-10 program of all time, don't think about necessarily Top-10 in today's polls and rankings, but a top-10 program all time, that will make these Ohio State allegations look like jaywalking."

Of course when the interview ended, Cofield and his co-host Dave Cokin went on and on, speculating about who this could be. Anyway, my point is, you said "hours" of investigation. This is approaching one year of investigation. This story is so well done, so thought out, so rich with facts and evidence. I've spend almost 4 hours online reading about this story. Then I realized, "I've never seen a story like this on sports." It's because the media nowadays, especially ESPN, reports anything juicy, regardless of the evidence. They just cite "sources", anonymous or not, and run with it. It's really wreckless and irresponsible. Sad, really.

Amen.

I am not sure why I put hours. I meant to say years. This was pure gold.
