Two big observations...https://247sports.com/player/samson-okunlola-46102278/high-school-252139/
Exhibit A of why it’s not the best strategy to pay massive NIL money to a HS OL. Okunla was seen as a massive whiff by Frye from fans. And OSU signed 3 IOL and 1 OT. That OT has transferred(Miles Walker who was always a project, and more of a plan c), but 2 of the IOL played big minutes throughout the season and dominated in the playoffs (Montgomery and Siereveld), while the last IOL(Padilla) is in the 2deep at C.
Okunla has yet to play any meaninful minutes in 3yrs, is now forced to play IOL and is fighting to even be in the 2 deep at IOL when he was supposed to be one of the most dominant pancake machines at OT and leave in 3yrs as a 1st round pick.
Suffice it to say, OSU looks to have won out on that. And to add to it, OSU landed a transfer OT from San Diego St who led the nation in penalties, and could possibly be drafted in the 1st or 2nd round in the 2025 NFL draft
2. Fans are fans. Some are smart. Some are morons. Typically they self-identify.
3rd big observation: Mario Cristobal’s man boobsTwo big observations...
1. Offensive lineman are typically not ready from day 1. Paying massive NIL to the next big thing is illogical and should never be the center of the recruiting strategy.
2. Fans are fans. Some are smart. Some are morons. Typically they self-identify.
