Miami (FL) Hurricanes (1926-2003)

There are several factors that allowed the NCAA to move quickly against PSU.

1. The Freeh report.

2. Penn State acceptance of the Freeh report.

2. The nature of the offense. Specifics were not as critical as they were with OSU or USC or will be with Miami.

3. Most importantly - PSU waved the white flag and made it clear they would not appeal.

All that said, PSU still took over 7 months to resolved (NCAA was involved last November).
USC fought tooth and nail to drag it out as long as they could.
OSU did move fairly quickly if you look at the timeline from full revelations to sanctions.

That's the first I've heard of that (USPS). Was Jerry mailing kids across state lines?

wanders off to google to find the story

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service has launched an investigation into Jerry Sandusky?s children?s charity, The Second Mile.

It is the seventh formal investigation to start since the former Penn State defensive coordinator was charged last year with more than 50 counts of child sex abuse, with most of the alleged victims from his charity.

Postal inspectors have authority over more than 200 federal laws that affect mail-related crime. Among those are child exploitation related to the distribution of pornography and other crimes related to kids; extortion, when demands for ransom or threats of blackmail are sent through the mail; mail fraud; counterfeit stamps; and money laundering.

One thing that tOSU did that none of these other schools seem to have done (or do) is they self-sanctioned themselves realistically, in a timely manner.

All the rest of these places wait to see how deep the NCAA will go. They act as if it's a game of Hold Em or something...

The OSU penalties also would have come down quicker and been much less severe IMHO had the DiGeronimo employment thing not broken in Oct of last year.

I think OSU would have had closure and no bowl ban had it not been for Posey and Herron getting suspended again at the conclusion of a pre-existing investigation.

Good point. If you go from the last "event" it was resolved very quickly.

Ray-Ray will not go quietly into that good night, and is planning to file an injunction vs. Miami for booting him off the team (link).

Boy, things are getting litigious with the NCAA nowadays. I wonder whether Ray-Ray has thought of the possibility that even if by some miracle the injunction is granted that Golden doesn't have to play him in games. In fact, he'd be downright stupid to play a possibly ineligible player.

Ray-ray is a trouble maker and the whole "girlfriend" thing is probably a lie. From what I am hearing down here, she is an agent. The lawyer trying to twist this around is laughable.

Also, according to UM folk I know down here, he was kicked off the team not specifically because of the NCAA investigation, but because he feels he should get special treatment and has violated countless team rules. I will be very surprised if he wins his case.

To be fair there isn't a school in Florida that Shapiro didn't try to have influence at. Obv. the big tier schools like uf, um, and fsu have had more run ins with him, but the middle tier schools USF, UCF, also have had Shapiro various run ins and contact with him.
