Men's Basketball Polls (AP, USA Today)

Ok let me preface this by saying that the Bucks have a long way to go to be considered one of the better teams in this country, for this season.

That being said..... how can a team that is and has been in the top 20 RPI all season, top 10 SOS and winning conference and overall record, not be in the top 45 teams in the country as far as polls go?

The bias against tOSU right now is reaching mammoth proportions. Dont start with the "quit whining about the media" stuff either. These accusations by us have legs. How else can you make the case against us time and again? We dont have that big win yet, I know that, but alot of these other teams dont either.

Of course, all of this means nothing at the moment and we can still win our conference and the tourney but isnt it getting a little ridiculous by now? I can see not in the top 25 at the moment but not in the top 45?!?!? Zero votes?!?! We arent that bad.

Or are we?

The Buckeyes do not deserve Top-25 consideration. The fact there is some dipweed in the media who votes for other undeserving teams does not alter that simple fact.

Bingo. AP polls in basketball don't mean a whole lot at the end of the year, let alone the middle of the year. I don't think any team will be happy to play us in the first round of the tourney, regardless of our ranking. I just hope our youth builds on our last two games.

Consideration? Maybe. OSU has been hanging around in the RPI top 25 for a while now.

However, the lack of a single win over a ranked team is still what's keeping them from getting any votes. Without a win over MSU, Wisky or IU, that's probably not going to change. You need a big win to get people's attention.

OSU 62 Florida 49

Florida currently ranked 19th (ESPN) and 20th (AP). Florida's record is 18 - 3.

Throw in a win against Syracuse #40 in the RPI basically at their second home...Also Cleveland State on the road (#64 RPI)...Also Minny #77 RPI beat them by 16...

Our loses have come on the road against Butler (top 20), UT (#1 RPI, had a chance to tie it late), Purdue(getting votes), MSU (#6 RPI, close game), Then gettig blown out only by aTm on a neutral court and playing UNC (#4 close at home.

Also we have played only 7 games against teams with losing records of the 20...Also Illinois could change that with a win in their next game and same with Iowa as they are both just 1 game under .500...

The bad games that we have played are Presbytarian, Columbia, coppin St, NW...

Put Florida up against that schedule and they have 8 losses at least...

Their losses came against #53 in the RPI, us and #71...

I am not saying that we are a top 25 team, but I really don't understand why we aren't getting any votes...I really think it has to do with people just looking at the number of losses a team has, even if they are quality losses...

Another team in the top 25 that is a joke they are in there and we aren't getting any votes is K State...L's against George mason, Oregon, @ ND, smoked @ Xavier...

The only solid win they have on their resume is Texas A&M and Oklahoma, both at home and Okie was without Griffin...maybe you could call At UCF a solid win but only by 2, also @ Rider, but they have played some very very bad teams, and are living off the hype of Michael Beasley...They come in at #39 in the RPI...

We will get to see if they are for real tho Wednesday as Kansas comes to town...

I guess what difference does it make if we are in the Top 25 in the middle of the season or not or even if we received a couple posts. It would bother me if we were really good and not in the Top 10 but just to be asking for some votes seems a little silly. We can show the media how good we are, or can be, as the season progresses.

While I agree with, that it doesn't matter, it is just such a big difference between teams that are ranked and one that doesn't have a single vote...

All of these points are true about the rankings not making much difference... on paper.

When looking at it from a seeding standpoint, potentially it could make a huge difference.

You have to play and win all of your games come tourney time no matter what but being a 5 or 6 seed vs 9,10,11 is a considerable difference. I'd rather be playing that 11 or 12 seed vs the 4 or 5 any day of the week. There's still time for us to make some noise, I get that, but from the looks of things in the rankings we have a lightyear of moving to do before we even come within sight of respectability. I just dont see that its warranted at the moment considering the rest of the fields' outlook.

Any team can beat us on a given night but no team in the country wants to deal with us on a hot shooting night!

At this point I think the players will be glad to get into the tournament on a high point. I think they'll get there, but what this team has gone through getting to the tournament is the starting point, to hell with the seed.

The last time people here bitched about rankings, Ohio State went on a 3 game losing streak. I don't know about you, but I'd rather not repeat that eh??

ummmm Kansas?? Even on a hot shooting night Kansas is the equal of everyone in the country right now.

I dont believe it was the "bitching" that caused the losing streak.

Kansas is very tough and so is Memphis, but if Diebler Butler and Koufos are all hot on the same night, we'd be a nightmare to defend. Those teams would be too much for us on our defensive end most likely but we could hang in there offensively.

Because the voters are idiots. Fortunately, the selection committee doesn't give a damn about the polls because you're right...we definitely should at least be getting some votes.
