Mel Tucker (HC Michigan St. Spartans)

Sports talk in Denver is still on him today nonstop. This is the only time I can remember any of these idiots talking about CU football. From what I gather, Tucker is a cross between Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin and Judas Iscariot.

So he's a great public speaker with lots of charisma, an iron will and can be a close friend up to a point?

CU locked him out of the athletic facility and wouldn't let him say goodbye to the team. Funny though that if Ohio State calls either their President or AD this year with an offer to move to a better job for twice the money, you god damned well know that both will crawl to Columbus on their hands and knees.

Mel Tucker will more than double his salary by leaving Colorado for Michigan State

When it came to the Michigan State football job, it was all about the money, stupid. Stupid money. As always.

Days after confirming his commitment to Colorado, Mel Tucker stunned most of the college football world by unconfirming and decommitting from the Pac-12 school. Wednesday morning, Colorado acknowledged that Tucker had resigned his position, effective immediately. A short time later, Michigan State football announced that Tucker had officially been hired to replace Mark Dantonio as head coach.

Tucker left Colorado for Michigan State football after just one season. In that one season with the Buffaloes, Tucker was paid $2.4 million in guaranteed compensation. That number was ninth among Pac-12 coaches.

According to reports, the new Michigan State football head coach will work under a six-year contract that will average $5.5 million annually. For those mathematically-challenged, Tucker will more than double his pay by moving from Boulder to East Lansing.

Dude more than doubled his salary; why cant they just congratulate him and wish him well? That's the kind of petty, sour grapes crap that will keep you from ever attracting a big-name long-term coach and becoming relevant.

I don't have any idea what kind of recruiting class Tucker put together in his one season out there, but here's hoping 3/4 of them hit the transfer portal and go with him to East Lansing.

You go out publicly and affirm your commitment to the current school, then go around with your AD to booster functions to talk up the program and try to rally more support and donations, and then, literally hours after doing that, blindside your AD by bolting, he might get a little salty.

Proves the theory that everybody has their price.

CU "fans" skipped denial and went straight to anger. Bargaining, depression and acceptance are still weeks away. I put "fans" in quotation marks because they really don't have many.

Ranking Big Ten coaches by their performance at Media Days

1. Mel Tucker (Michigan State)

This was Tucker’s first B1G Media Days as a head coach, and boy, he hit it out of the park. I recognize that Kirk Ferentz and Paul Chryst aren’t trying to hit home runs at an event like this—their track records speak for themselves—so there is a different standard. Tucker had to show well this week—for recruiting, for the fan base, for his program—to instill confidence and belief moving forward, and he did just that. You could see the intensity in his eyes.

Tucker spoke from the heart, about how Michigan State has been his dream job since 1997. He spoke about the team’s identity and how the fans deserve a winning team. My favorite part was how everyone keeps telling him that this is really Year 1, since he was hired so late and then COVID hit, stripping him of a chance of an offseason with his new program. But Tucker rebuts that by saying, “No, it’s not Year 1, it’s Year 2. We have to get this thing moving. There is a sense of urgency with this program.”

Can’t wait to see it!

“We have capable quarterbacks that all have different skill sets,” Tucker told reporters. “But it’s going to be competitive. We’re going to go into camp — it’s wide open. But I feel good about how the guys have worked. I feel great about these camaraderies, the teamwork, really the togetherness. The guys are helping each other. It’s not a sharp-elbow room there, which is good culture. And quite frankly, if we have a quarterback, we’re probably going to need them both. We’re going to need them all. We need to have as many guys on our roster that can go in a game and win the 1 on 1s against the competition and play winning football. So we’re going to develop all, whether it’s Russo,
Thorne, Noah Kim, Hamp Fay — those guys all competing, OK, to get on the field.

“And it’s our job to teach, motivate, develop those guys — and not just motivate, but inspire those guys and capture their minds to get them to a place where they can go out and play winning football for us. Those guys are on scholarship. They’re on scholarship for a reason, because we think they can get the job done.”

I think you should TIFWIW when they're ranking coaches based on interviews before games have even been played. I would love to see Big 10 have media days right before the B1G championship, and see what coaches would win that. Especially after seeing Ryan Day and OSU approach wining yet another B1G championship, and their teams all lost by multiple TDs
