Matt Barnes (DC Memphis Tigers)

I don’t want to see another situation where we had definite in house issues between coaches. Thank Coombs and send him on his way. Kind of pissed that Laurinitis is going to ND.
Ohio State fans' fascination with former players who have never coached continues to baffle me.

Linebackers have been an issue since Urb's best man worked his magic. That area really needs to be addressed.
big assumption is that the current guy can coach them up (not the new DC)
2017 Bad DC::Bad LBs
2018 Bad DC::Bad LBs
2019 Good DC::Good LBs
2020 Bad DC::Bad LBs
2021 Bad DC::Bad LBs

I really don’t think the issues on defense are that complicated.

It’s hard to play well, much less aggressive and “tough,” when you’re thinking about your gap assignment on every single play because the DC barely knows what's going on with the defense on paper much less effectively preparing for an opponent and responding to what’s going on in a game.

An entire off-season with a competent DC teaching and installing a cohesive scheme, preparing specific game plans for a team in a given week, calling plays in a game, and responding to what the offense is doing in the game, will make players and assistant coaches look great.

I don’t abide with designating Schiano as a “bad” DC.
Nor do I feel our 2020 lb’s as bad.
2 are starting in The Show and 2 made practice rosters.

Agree in general but they can be good position coaches sometimes.

My bigger concern is will they do the hard work involved with recruiting (travel and dealing with HS kids). To me, that's the biggest issue. Not their knowledge or experience.

Hope he stays cause I think he did a good job with a shit situation, but would be hard to turn down.
This staff has far to many non recruiters who aren’t GODs of their position coaching … Barnes is one, Flemming, Studs, Wilson (kinda), hell Coombs had a down year this year … Denis kinda as well but anyways,… far to many guys that can’t/wont recruit but are just Ok at their job of coaching… this should not be the case for tOSU…
