Masoli and other Ducks' legal issues

Grad Student?

I know this is not of the utmost importance, but what the hell grad program is he going to enroll in (catfish farming?).

None of the articals I've read have said what one, they only say "a graduate program that is not offered at Oregon" and apparently there are three of them.

It really doesn't matter...it is likely for a semester only.

Curious. Last I knew, Masoli was a true Soph at UO. What Ole Miss graduate programs accept .... how do we say.. people who haven't graduated?
S-H-A-M
I thought he was a JUCO guy at Oregon going into his Senior year this season...maybe he completed his coursework this summer? Or maybe it's a big S-H-A-M like you say. It is the SEC...

I don't think so. I can't know for sure, but the mothership.com has him listed as a Jr. and I thought he was a Soph in the Rose Bowl (but that is just from memory, since my kids decided to DVR shows they've seen a million times I can't watch the 2010 rose bowl to see).

Masoli spent a year in juco ball in 07. He was a true soph and junior the last two seasons as a starter.

I though they nixed the graduate school loophole after the 06 season? Or will he be sitting out this fall?

Before and during the 06, the ncaa made a further mockery of the student athlete concept, by allowing players to transfer for graduate school, which obviously led to recruiting small school players to better football opportunities, not better degrees.

They nixed it in the spring immediately afterwards, some just missed the deadline.

Paulus was switching sports. Had he transferred to syracuse for bball a year earlier, he would have had to sit out for a year.
The NCAA Transfer Guide would grant him an exemption based on the fact that "he did not participate in [football] for the two years immediately" before transferring.

OK, thanks. I wasn't sure what his deal was. Even so, he doesn't strike me as a "go getter" in the classroom - so I wonder about the whole Graduate school transfer thing in as much as he's not a graduate (and, no, I'm not suggesting he is a moron or in any way unscrupulous - and yes, he may well be a graduate - haven't bothered to look that up)

BKB - here http://www.olemiss.edu/depts/education/pdfs/C&I_Graduate_Handbook.pdf

it says that - for example - Masoli could apply to the Masters program in education and be admitted conditionally with a 2.75. I've read where he had a 4.0 in h.s., so that could give them cover for a conditional admission.

IOW, I think they could do this deal with a minimum of shenanigans - considering the lower admission requirements.

Jeremiah Masoli pleads guilty, pays fine, 'has no obligations anymore' | OregonLive.com

Looks like he graduated.

Every article acts like it was a done deal, but I am pretty sure they ended it or at least changed the policy significantly after urban poached one of his corners that he recruited to utah.

New NCAA rules a road block for graduate transfers eligibility | The Red and Black

I am wondering if he received approval by the ncaa or possibly has to sit out and the media just assumed otherwise.
