Maryland at tOSU, Sat. 10/7, 12pm ET, FOX

Not gonna pretend like I'm Mr X's & O's but I'm tired of Klatt and other people saying the reason the defense doesn't get any sacks is b/c they changed their defense to try and limit big plays. They're the first team ever to play a little softer on the back end to try and prevent explosive pass plays? The reason they don't get sacks is b/c the d-line doesn't win. And on the o-line, again I'm not Mr X&O, but it doesn't seem like our run schemes fit our personnel on the line. These dudes aren't even close to making some of the blocks necessary to break these plays.

Klatt was really good at pointing out the OL issues during the game. If we don’t get the push from the interior DL then it’s pretty much a wash.

You were naive.

And BP didn't exist back in 2002. I can't imagine how bad some of those game threads would have been (Cincinnati, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Penn State, Purdue, Illinois, Michigan).
I would say in that Penn State and Purdue window you probably started to believe they would find a way. I don't think there was any illusion it would be anything but difficult from there on in. We had lost at home to Illinois in recent memory and while the Michigan windmill had finally been tilted, I think we all had lived thru the 90's.

(For me personally as much as holy buckeye is the standard bearer for the pre Michigan games that season that PSU game was a street fight and it was a loud ass crowd man)

No disrespect to Washington State but there were no expectations outside mike doss at that point and it ended up in retrospect being very important

Knowles blitzed more last season. That got sacks and burned at times. The burns have disappeared but without blitzing the pass rush has suffered because the line doesn't win often. Hopefully the line will improve the pass rush, but through five games the most points allowed was today - 17. I'll take fewer sacks if it means fewer points allowed.

Don't get me started on the run blocking...

Are you talking about against everyone or just against the one quality team they’ve played? Because against ND, if you take away his 61-yd TD run, TreVeyon averaged under 3.4 ypc. I don’t think stats against the likes of Youngstown State count for squat.
If you took away the best runs and best games for every running back then none of them would have good stats.

Penn State was the 9th game of the season. If it took until that game to be confident they would pull out any game then I don't think it's fair to compare to this team who's only played 5 games.

Just sayin': Maryland is not a "little sisters of the poor" and/or "cupcake" team. They are more than capable of beating a very good team. They have 2 home games in November that could be very interesting*:

4 Nov 23: vs Penn State
18 Nov 23: vs scUM

* especially if they can eliminate self inflicted mistakes.
In his postgame press conference, Maryland head coach Mike Locksley was proud of his team's competitiveness but knew that the Terrapins had too many self-inflicted mistakes.

Just sayin': Score tied, on the 18 yard line (in very makeable field goal range), 12 seconds left in the first half, and no timeouts; this isn't the play I would have called.

If nobody is open along the sideline or in the endzone, just throw it away. An incomplete pass stops the clock and gives you a field goal attempt.
