Was it that bad outside of how they did the Mandarin? (which is a legit gripe)
I personally think so. I think Im3 and Thor Dark World are the two worst mcu movies.
As someone who's been a huge nerd, I can't stand watching them again
Where would you rank IM2? I have been working through the MCU with my daughters over the past few weeks (mostly for the first time myself too), and Iron Man 2 was the only one we universally panned. The story was mostly uninteresting and Mickey Rourke just did not work for me, at all (edit: and I agree with Dryden that Rockwell was well below his standards). We did skip Thor Dark World since it looked pretty bad.
Which makes two clown shows when you factor in Cheadle. I really hope that wasn't a cost-cutting gaffe by recasting Brody.Sam Rockwell was miscast as Justin Hammer in Iron Man 2. It was a cringeworthy performance from an otherwise great actor.
I loved him, particularly the two roles.Ben Kingsley, on the other hand, is probably the best part of Iron Man 3. Kingsley could read a phone book and still be entertaining.
Is Brody a funny internet name that I'm not aware of?Which makes two clown shows when you factor in Cheadle. I really hope that wasn't a cost-cutting gaffe by recasting Brody.

Can I blame it on @brodybuck21 liking a post of mine recently? Otherwise I have nothing. But it's Rhodey
Ok fuckers, everyone in the Last Movie You Saw thread convinced me after watching Black Panther that I should start at the beginning and watch the rest. So I will chart my progress here. Saturday it was Ironman. Even Gwenyth looked hot and wasn’t annoying (maybe she is a good actress after all?). Story was more interesting than I thought it would be, though I had held out hope that Jeff Bridges would be back and not bite the weenie. Still, a high quality flick, but not quite at BP level.
1. Black Panther
2. Ironman
and Bruce Willis is already dead.
Last night it was The Incredible Hulk. So, I was certainly entertained, and it had a great cast. Norton is one of my 2 or 3 faves with Bale, and I like Liv Tyler, she’s cute without being over the top and I’ve seen her in some roles where she had some depth and did well with it. This story, however, had the depth of a mud puddle. There was nothing wrong with it, and I got a few chills when they created Abomination (I have the advantage of knowing the characters but not aliases and backstories, so it’s kind of all new to me in that way), but there was just little to the story beyond the typical summer blockbuster. I’m not surprised they didn’t pay for Norton going forward, as almost anyone could probably play that role going forward. Roth was good as usual. Ross was kind of shallow and boring. Decent, but as much ID4 as Iron Man for me.
1. Black Panther 5/5
2. Iron Man 4.5/5
3. Incredible Hulk 3/5
I'm glad Norton was recast. Mark Ruffalo plays Banner so much better in Avengers 1 and Ragnarok.
TBS runs MCU movies perpetually. Tonight I caught parts of Winter Soldier, Civil War, and wound up rewatching Doctor Strange in its entirety. Aside from Thor: Dark World, which is arguably the poorest film in the entire series, I was reminded the quality of the pictures ticks up quite a bit after Phase One. Doctor Strange was so damn good -- still perhaps my favorite film in the entire MCU.
Everyone went to bed early tonight, so next in sequence was Iron Man 2. Anyone hoping for an Empire to the first ones Star Wars was certainly disappointed, but it wasn’t terrible. I agree with people previously that Cheadle was horrendous, which is weird because I like him. Hammer just kind of struck me like Ross did in IH, one dimensional and boring. At no time did he seem like a serious threat, there was no credibility in that role at all. I also thought the story was shallower and the stuff between Stark and Potts went from interesting sexual tension in I to annoying as fuck in II. The one place I actually didn’t hate was Rourke actually, he didn’t exactly have Joker material to work with, but he didn’t mail it in either. I at least got the sense he was trying, unlike Cheadle. I’m not the biggest SJ fan, but there’s no denying she looks good in a sun dress or in a tight black suit. All in all, I give it about the same average rating as IH for different reasons, maybe rating IH slightly higher because they used Abomination better and I like Liv Tyler better than Gwenyth in this one.Last night it was The Incredible Hulk.
