I know he is at practice as part of the Espin deal but I have to get this out there. If by some weird turn of events he were to be on our staff one day it would be hard to complain about. The dude is a great coach and the comment made earlier about KU firing him being a major mistake was right on the mark. He would have to spend some time with Mickey and Miss Sarah or the gravy comments about other coaches would have to stop though because we would have the king on our staff. Wonder where this guy ends up? Seems like he would land an OC job some place?

Exactly. Keep in mind that the mean reason Meyer burnt out at UF was because he was not prepared for the coaching turnover. Meyer has already said that it is only a matter of time until Herman becomes a HC. Methinks he is preparing himself for that time.

Also, it is not unusual for coaches to tour other facilities to learn new practice concepts. Think Meyer last year.

Kansas firing Mangino because he was mean to the players was probably one of the worst coaching moves of all time. Rich Rod and Ty Willingham were both confused by the move.

The school said last month it would probe Mangino's treatment of his team. In the following days, many former players described insensitive, humiliating remarks they claim he made to them during games or practice, often in front of others

Lawrence is full of wannabe Ivy League, feminine, hippy girlie-men and their women reming me of Hyde Park snobs. It could be worse I guess. KSU was full of cow shit smelling trailer trash with no real football knowledge...but the women were easier to talk to. :wink2:

Back on topic, he is a good coach and most of those kids probably deserved to be yelled at if not put in timeout...not like Sandusky timeout but you get the picture.

Mark Mangino back in coaching, back at Youngstown St. This time as asst HC, TE coach/RC. http://bit.ly/Y3UQ1E

Mark Mangino, the consensus 2007 FBS National Coach of the Year while at Kansas, has joined the Youngstown State coaching staff as assistant head coach and tight ends coach, Penguins Head Coach Eric Wolford announced on Friday. Mangino will also serve as the program's recruiting coordinator.

This will be a homecoming of sorts for the native of nearby New Castle, Pa., and a reunion with Coach Wolford. Wolford played for Mangino at Kansas State and they coached together at the school when Wolford was a graduate assistant working with the offensive line.

"This is a homecoming for me," Mangino said. "I'm delighted to be at a great school with a great football tradition with a team and coach poised to do great things. Every coaching job I have ever taken was a rebuilding project, but this program is not rebuilding. This program has the potential to have a very good year and that's a credit to Eric Wolford, his staff and his team."

"I am a big believer in Coach Wolford's 'no shortcuts' approach that focuses on getting results on and off the field. This school is near and dear to my heart and I'll work very hard with Coach Wolford to get the job done."

Mangino, a Youngstown State graduate, was the head coach at Kansas from 2002-09 where he guided the Jayhawks to a 50-48 mark during his tenure CONT...

Recruiting coordinator? Does Youngstown State have the budget to send Mangino around the country on a plane? Thats two seats he's occupying round trip, not to mention the per diem...can't imagine what he'll rack up in food costs.

As an alum and fan I hope he has a positive impact, and I'm a bit excited being that he has had some success in a challenging position on a bigger stage.

Unless it's the angle of this photo, he appears to have dropped a few pounds:

However, with all the good pizza, Italian, and other ethnic food there he's bound to gain it back.

“It was a bad fit,” Mangino said of Iowa State. “I mean, from the day I got there I was totally uncomfortable, I was constantly worried about, ‘Are we getting enough time to do this? Are we emphasizing the right things? Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And that went on for quite a while. I worked hard, because I know no other way to do it. I coached the kids up, but I was miscast at Iowa State. And I made the decision to go there so I don’t point the finger at anybody but myself.”

“Am I gonna send out resumes? No. If somebody called me and said, ‘Mark, we think that this might be a job that fits you and this is what we’re willing to do.’ Now, I’m not talking about a top 20 job, no. But, ‘a program that fits you and this is what we can do to help get better and everything,’ I’d consider it. I’d consider it.”

Just sayin': Yeah, but nobody has a size 66L head coaching job.
