I haven't played Madden since it was a launch title for the original Xbox. Can anybody here tell me how closely it is expected to mirror the gameplay of NCAA? I ask because passing in NCAA is a mega bitch this year and for as excited as I am for an edition of Madden with a Cleveland Brown on the cover, I'm not in a mood to double down on my frustration.

Last year, NCAA's gameplay far surpassed Madden. However, if Madden' adopts NCAA's read option, it'll make a huge difference. The presentation isn't even close. Madden kills when it comes to that. Overall, Madden feels more polished. It's obvious which game is EA's baby.

This year, with the supposed upgrades to the Franchise mode (an extreme weakness in Madden the last couple years), the pendulum may be swinging once again to Madden's side. Free agency used to be a joke. Teams would always resign their best guys, and the top guy in free agency usually ended up being a 78 OVR LG or something. I'm actually excited for Madden this year. I always enjoy it, but this is the first time in about three years that I'm actually looking forward to the game.

Oh, you mean FIFA? :susp:

The passing game is light years better than NCAA's. Receiver are actually using their bodies to shield the ball from the DBs. In one demo, I threw two completions that would have been INTs in NCAA.

So they actually have "precision" passing?

I'm gonna have to download it and test it out.

The problem with NCAA and madden in the past few years is that there really isn't much precision passing.

Success in the passing game in football is determined by precision passing and TIMING routes. It should be the same way in football games.

I'm so tired of the same routes working every-time and the same routes never working.

I'll give you an example. I was playing as the Packers, and I had Jennings running a deep in-route. I threw the ball as he was cutting, and the SS started making his move forward. In NCAA, this is always an interception. In Madden, Jennings jumped, turned his body into the defender, and came down with the ball. I actually took a moment to let it sink in.

So long as the QB isn't taking an additional 10-15 yard drop back, throwing off his backfoot and hitting a perfect drag route - I'll be happy.

Madden last year was such garbage.

Oh, and getting rid of the "strategy" pad. Fuck that nonsense.

So I am trying to pre-order this through Amazon (via the BP Store), but in doing so I don't see any reference about the $20 credit. Do I have to do anything special to get the credit or do I just complete the checkout process and I'll get it after that?

Edit: Nevermind. I went through to the end and it told me about the $20 credit and gave me the release date shipping option for $1.

I played the demo once last night and couldn't run the ball. I'd hate to buy a game featuring Peyton Hillis on the cover and not even be able to use him.

I hated the camera - it seemed jerky and odd compared to NCAA. I realize they are trying to bring some of the TV shots into it, but it jumps around a lot. I also think the player animations are impossibly jumpy - reminiscent of really old games before analog thumbsticks where players moved in just eight directions. NCAA has more fun and more fluid player movement from what I can discern, and seems to be closer to simulation in that regard.

Also, uncanny valley - hello! The player and coach likenesses creeped me the fuck out. Aaron Rodgers and Lovie Smith are particularly horrifying.

Do how the dreads/long hair look really annoy the [Mark May] out of anyone else (in both NCAA & Madden)? If you can't do it right, don't do it.

I hated this as well.

I'm surprised by the criticism of this game. I think it's very on point and way ahead of NCAA in almost every aspect. Running the ball feels so crisp and I feel like I'm running with a human that can make fluid, human movements. With NCAA, I feel like it's just too fast and the guys are gliding around. The collisions are good, the presentation is clearly unparalleled, playing defense is a challenge, playing offense is realistic. At no point in the demo did I feel like I was "had". I'll be picking this one up and only playing NCAA when I go to my buddy's house. I love me some Buckeyes football, but NCAA is retardedly inferior to their daddy.
