I know there are probably 98% PC lovers on this siite, but we've got to have a few people who enjoy Macs. I bought mine a year and half or so ago and love it. I did some minor programming in college and was always on a PC but started toying around with a Mac and love it.


Anyone know of any companies that are only using Macs? I'm sure there aren't a lot besides the graphical companies, but was just curious.
 
We use a few Macs here at work. The only reason we have them is because the software we use for a particular application is OS X only. The rest of the company is hardcore 100% Microsoft - Exchange servers, Outlook, Sharepoint sites, etc. However, with a little tweaking, I can do 80-90% of everything I need to do in a day on my Mac that I can on my PC. I can log onto our secure wireless, access our intranet, and get email off our Exchange servers with Entourage. Not perfect, but certainly better than I thought.

Macs are by no means business machines, and they aren't meant to be. A case could be made for their Mac Pro's, but they are for content creation or mathematical/graphical modeling, not programming or systems administration.

I personally have a Macbook at home and love it. No complaints whatsoever.

Chances are.. outside of an ad agency or graphic design shop... you're not going to find many or any entire companies that are solely Mac...

Virtually all business software is written for PCs... and even if a Mac can run the software, the IT folks would always be apprehensive that they will eventually run into snags down the line... an IT group has to be risk averse... just can't take chances

One of my departments at Goodyear was IT... we literally brought PCs into Goodyear... and around Xmas time my top brainiac (now retired) bought a Mac for his house... he is RAVING about it...

I just got a MacBook Pro around Christmas, and have been very pleased. Basically the only limits I've found are due to my own computer illiteracy. GarageBand is pretty fun to play around with, as is iMovie.

I'm sure I will have some questions for those of you who are much more in the know than I am (rocketman, ohioste) as I look to create some of my own Buckeye highlight videos.

Macs cause cancer.

-BTW if anyone wants to ignore my above warning and risk their health by trying OSX (10.5 to be exact) do a search on "Kalyway". The .iso can be found as a torrent and isn't too hard to get up and running on most P4 or greater based systems (no AMD, Intel only).

Keep in mind that it is an illegal license of the OS so use your best judgement.

Just bought a new MacBook about six weeks ago and love it. I had an iBook G4 for a few years before that and just felt like I wanted an upgrade. I'll never get to use a Mac at work though...Uncle Sam is waaaay to cheap for that.

I don't have a mac but would if they were not so much money. I would guess it's worth it though because the only think I ever hear bad about them are PC lovers (that have never had one) talking smack.

Yes, one of the major downfalls is the cost.

Muck is right when he said on another post that they can charge more because they are the only computer company out there that run on what they run. At least I believe it was Muck who said this...

However, I do believe with your comment that Muck also just sat straight up in his sleep... :tongue2:

In high school I was a PC guy through and through, I thought my Dell desktop was the greatest computer I'd ever seen before... but then the viruses started, the internet slowed, programs crashed without explanation and I became fed up. I tell you what, there's never been anything more annoying to me then the stupid "End Now" popups on a PC computer, because they don't go away right away and the program takes years to actually quit.

However, when I went into college I was shown the light with my PowerBook G4, and let me tell you something, I'll never go back to PC's, ever! Unless of course my profession requires me to use one, in which I'll probably hate every minute I'm on it (it will probably bring back too many bad memories). Anyways, I am in love with Mac and am proud to say so. I do a lot of video work, so I'm always using Final Cut and the Mac just offers better programs for this type of work. I also have two LaCie external hard drives which are extremely beneficial for me to be able to hold all of my Buckeye highlights on, until I can get them burnt onto a DVD to be able to watch in my free time! Oh and also... one of the greatest things about Mac's... the force quite application, because when you want a non-responding program to close, it will close on a Mac! Unlike those damn PC's.

got my "new" macbook yesterday, refurb 2.0ghz white with one gig of ram. saved 300 over the new price so i upgraded to 4gb of ram! this thing is very nice, super easy to setup and the learning curve isn't as bad as i thought it was going to be. i've got a lot to learn still, but it will come over time!

Sounds like you got a good deal. Do you mind if I ask where you got this? I found a website that I found somewhat interesting that is selling Macs really cheap. I am pretty much waiting for my bonus to get a 2-3 year old mac laptop and this site has the best prices I can find. Did you get this straight from the Apple online store?
