He also has to beat several real teams every year. A lot of media like to gloss over that the ND schedule ain’t that hard top to bottom compared to what it was in the 80s and even 90s. Beating 3-5 ACC teams, Navy, and PAC12 teams that are shells of their former selves pale in comparison to Alabama and the SEC West.
