LSU Tiger Baseball 2015

@Nutriaitch :shake:

#1 ranked Tigers storm out to 16-1 record

The LSU Bengal Tigers are currently ranked #1 in the nation and have opened the season by winning 16 of their first 17 games. The only blemish is a loss to Nicholls State in the 4th game of the season.

Start Nearly perfect for #1 LSU

Feinswog: Start Nearly Perfect for No. 1 Baseball

Not even the wacky March weather can rain on the LSU baseball parade.

The Tigers are ranked No. 1, stand 16-1, and, if you divide the college baseball season into three parts, they couldn’t have asked for more in the first third.

Now the second third begins, Southeastern Conference play, and how exciting is that for a freshman who has become such an integral part of the top team in the nation?

“I’m having a blast,” freshman pitcher Alex Lange said with a big smile.

He, for one, should be. The big kid is 4-0 with a 1.57 ERA, he’s struck out 26 batters in 23 innings, and is part of the 2-3 punch that LSU throws (literally) at opponents. That’s because Lange will start Saturday’s second game of the LSU’s three-game series that starts Friday with Ole Miss. Then Sunday, the Tigers come back with another freshman, Jake Godfrey, whose line so far shows him 3-0 with a 1.69 ERA. Which is pretty ridiculous.

“Those freshmen we have pitching for us are pretty unbelievable,” LSU senior third baseman Connor Hale said. “It”s crazy how they stepped in and have been able to get the job done … Those guys showed up on a mission and they haven’t gotten off of it.”

Not to forget that LSU opens the weekend with sophomore Jared Poche’, who is 4-0 with a 2.08 ERA, he’s struck out 17 in 20 innings and opponents are hitting just .200 against him.

thanks for starting this thread JC.

also need to mention our redshirt freshman closer Jesse Stallings.

8 saves, 0.00 ERA in 9.0 innings pitched.

I'm liking this team so far. made it to a game couple weekends ago.
Lots of team speed this year. Decent power, and lots guys with solid BAs.

High expectations this year in Baton Rouge.

Must be nice to have this type of excitement around your baseball program.

I love that LSU puts serious money into the baseball program and treats it like a revenue sport (and at LSU it makes more money than anything other than football).

the fan support has been amazing. we're closing on 2 straight decades of leading the nation in attendance, topping what several minor league teams bring in.

we beat the dogshit outta Ole Miss tonight!
so all is good in the world right now.

To be honest, brody, LSU is one of the top programs in the country. Their stadium, "The Box" is one of the nicest facilities in college. They have a great history of success. They have earned their reputation and I have great respect for their program.

Oh trust me I know all of this and agree 100%. As a youngster i would watch the CWS every year and root for LSU whenever they were in it (My high schools colors and jerseys were modeled after them, Reynoldsburg High!) and just marvel at all the talent and support. Just saying I wish OSU had that as well.

Yeah, sorry about that brody. Upon re-reading my reply it looked like I was accusing you of dissing LSU. Not my intention, I knew what you meant, just didn't respond well.

What are your guys thoughts on Coach Mainieri? Seems like a genuine guy, and a heck of a
Coach. Curious as to LSU a fans views on him.

I have mixed feelings on him.
Seems like a genuinely good guy and is very well liked by his players and their families.

As coach and recruiter, I think he's really good, but sometimes overthinks things.

for example: the last few year of the dead bat era, I think he went too far with it. he loaded the lineup with slap hitters who could run and didn't provide much balance. and at times as early as the 1st inning I've seen him bunt with the only guy with any pop in his bat. and it's a guy who probably has never been asked to bunt in his life prior to that.

as far as pitchers, he has few equals. he has brought in an developed some amazing arms in his time here.
if true freshman Alex Lange continues at this pace and improves even the normal expected amount for 3 years, he will be fucking ridiculous by the time he leaves.
