Michigan and Notre Dame should provide a strong test. You have to take who you can get sometimes. Would you rather be off to the start you've got now or be like Vandy at 0-3 after going to Stanford?

Stanford has 3 against Vandy and 3 against Texas this weekend to open the season...

not leaving the state of Louisiana ooc (and an overall week ooc schedule) last year kept us out of a regional.

so to fix that, we scheduled an even weaker ooc slate (no Cal St. Fullerton this year), and our farthest ooc road trip is 126 miles down I-10.

the selection committee told us point blank that our schedule is why we got snubbed last year.

there are enough quality teams playing right next door in Texas, that there is no excuse for not getting a road trip at least once a year to play somebody.

hell, even go to Mississippi and play Southern Miss.
oh wait, that's one of our "road" games.
played at Zephyr Field in New Orleans, and called the "Wally Pontiff Classic". Named after a starter on our 2000 national championship team who died the offseason before his senior season.

the only reason we don't do it is the $ that comes with selling 10k+ tickets for every single home game regardless of opponent.

So you make one trip.

Try to get everyone else to come play you. I'm sure there's enough teams out there willing to do it

it's what we should do.
there are plenty of quality OOC teams that are short travel distances from Baton Rouge.
We don't have to play against teams in the top 5, but at least someone with a decent rep.

then get everyone else to come to us.

Alex Box and our fans are well enough known, that we could probably get some good teams to show up if we tried.

Stories like this are one of the many reasons I love our baseball fan base

Air Force head coach wrote a letter of appreciation to the Baton Rouge paper after their trip to Alex Box on opening weekend.

"I wanted to personally thank Baton Rouge, LSU, Coach Paul Mainieri and the amazing LSU fans for the tremendous support they showed the cadets and fans from the United States Air Force Academy this past weekend. I had heard that LSU supporters were some of the best in the country, and they certainly did not disappoint.

I can honestly say that our team will never forget the unparalleled hospitality they received while visiting your great city and institution. Giving our team the opportunity to play and compete against such talent as Paul Mainieri and the LSU baseball team, in such an unbelievable facility was an experience our players, coaches and fans won't soon forget.
Those of us wearing Air Force blue this weekend, in a sea of purple and gold might typically feel a little bit uneasy. However, your fans seemed genuinely appreciative of the cadets at the Air Force Academy and their future service to our great nation. To receive standing ovations during the middle of a Division 1 collegiate baseball game is an experience that is difficult to put into words. Nothing in my 20-year military and coaching career could have prepared me for that response and outpouring of support.

While we would have liked to walk out of Alex Box Stadium with a few more W's this weekend, what we did walk away with simply cannot be matched.
You all should be very proud to be a part of such a great city and institution. Best of luck to all of you this season, and I think you may find you have a few more fans, who when not rooting for AFA will be pulling for LSU! It was Priceless! Thank You!"?
