If you had taken him the first time around it would be you guys with the Willie Lyles problem right now.

As opposed to the RR induced "holy shit we're so bad we lost to fucking Toledo" problem.

Damned if you do and damned if you don't I guess.

College Football Live had Les Miles on today, and after asking him about Russell Shepherd, who left SEC media days with possible compliance issues (Les wasn't informed but had no reasons for concern), and asking about the team in general, ESPN's Anish Shroff actually asked Les about Willie Lyles:

AS: "How would you characterize your relationship with Willie Lyles?"

LM - "I'm not allowed to comment on what is an ongoing investigation, apparently, The only thing I can tell you about our needs of video, um, you know, issuers, is we get video from a number of providers across the country, and we recruit a very broad group of states and areas, and, frankly that's our greatest need, that would be, of the video."

AS - "But when it's reported that some of the videos included players who had already enrolled elsewhere to play college football, I mean, in your eyes if you take a step back, what sort of questions does that raise?"

LM - "Well, the only thing I can tell you is that the video that I use to evaluate our players was very good video, video that was consistent with the style of play of the player that I was looking at. And, I uh, it's ... , the only thing I can tell you is we go through a process in recruiting, and it does not reflect anybody's opinion, or any other piece, and we have had our video, and all that we needed to recruit well."

AS - "So you didn't see anything in there, or did you see anything in there that didn't match up? Saying, hey, this guy's already playing somewhere else"

LM - "Yeah, I don't know that we look for people that are playing other places, we look for people that are playing on the film that we need to evaluate. Certainly, we've never looked for something that didn't reflect a need of ours."

Sounds like this Anish Shroff guy could use a not-suspension.

I would of just answered "we were watching for underclassmen in the game on the video that we may want to take a better look at, we don't wait until they're seniors".

We are talking about Lester Miles here. The guy openly eats grass on national television.

TigerSportsDigest has learned the situation with #LSU's Russell Shepard is a compliance issue related to off-campus housing arrangements.

That was embarrassing for them today, since he was one of the players they had brought to the SEC meetings for interviews. He was sent home before the media sessions.

What's the over-under on the number of days till Nutria's sober enough to get back on the 'puter?

No vBet on this - I'll guess about 1 day.

Personally, I don't think the Willie Lyles thing is going to mean much for LSU. From what I can tell, what they acquired wasn't vastly overpriced or worthless (as in Oregon's case). Any package of high school players is bound to have some guys that have already committed to other schools, unless it's specifically made for a small set of players. Tailoring it like that would mean extra time and expense - it's easier just to send a group package out for a period of a few months, and let the schools look at the guys they're interested in.

If a few guys on a video have already committed somewhere else, that seems normal. It's not like Oregon getting a package for 2011 recruits that was comprised almost entirely of 2009 recruits.

As far as having Shepard probably missing the opener against Oregon, I don't think that's more than 1 serious night of drinking for Nutria.

I was basing my statement more on the Shepherd situation. IF (big ass IF) he's been out of compliance for a while; THEN that's a shitload of games to vacate.

Only if they knew, or clearly should have known, of the violation.
