Pollsters look at offense period. They dropped 60 something on a BCS conference team while we could only muster 27 on SDSU.

We only had between 150 and 25 vote lead on them depending on which poll iirc.

Don't be suprised if they jump us.

Not tryin to be a smart ass here, but.........

Lousiville put up 63 on Oregon State. We put up 27 (and any of the pollsters who watched the game can see that we only score if the D gets us the ball inside the SDSU 35)..........I wouldnt blame them for puttin Lousiville ahead of us.

no games against top 25 opponents the whole year. , will they be ranked ahead of a 1 loss buckeye team ?

Should they be ranked ahead of a 1 loss buckeye team right now ?
I heard Mike Terico say that he wouldn't rank Louisville over a good 2 loss team because of their weak schedule.

Hopefully more pollster voters have that attitude.

One of the ESPN talking heads picked Louisville - USC to be in the Rose Bowl. They are a talented team, but I don't trust any team out of the Big East to be anything more than a souffle.. like the year BYU managed to cry their way to NC contention on the basis of beating the snot out of a bunch of lightweights. But anyone who thinks U of L won't be ranked ahead of us tomorrow is in for a shock.

In a word...yes....THIS WEEK. Ohio State lost (albeit an instant classic) their game against a great team, and has not been dominating offensively against two lesser opponents (both teams are 1-2 and 0-3). When conference play starts, and we start beating Iowa and Michigan State, and they are beating South Florida and Rutgers, damn straight we are above them in every conceivable way. But for this week, no, I actually don't have any problem with Louisville being ahead.

FWIW as far as BCS rankings go. The early computer polls are as follows:

sagarin=29th
Billingsly=14th
Colley=65th *only through week 2
massey=17

Just an indicator, no real conclusions you can draw yet but I don't know if we are going to get enough computer love to help offset the human bias from this little snapshot.

:osu: A team that wins, should never jump another winning team.
The Buckeyes are not good enough to play for the NC anyway, so the polls really doesn't matter. They just need to focus on winning the next game.
The only way for a JT team to play in the NC game, is to go undefeated.
This will always be the case for the Buckeyes, till they hire a better OC, in the box. I gauged their second game, on what they are made of. I'm hoping for an 11-1 season - that would be great

Jax, take those early computer rankings with a HEAVY grain of salt. Here's what the computers see, if they're running an unseeded algorithm:

Team O has beaten Miami of Ohio, who are 1-2 with a win over Kent and a loss to Central Michigan (1-2), who has two B10 losses, I believe.

Team O has beaten San Diego State, who are 0-3 with losses to Air Force and UCLA (3-0)

Team O has a loss to Texas, who is (3-0) with wins over LA Lafayette and Rice, who I'm guessing are both 0-2 or 0-3.

In other words, not a lot of schedule quality to give us computer points RIGHT NOW. Big Ten conference wins will help push us past Louisville, if some weird situation happens where we wind up #3 in the coaches poll and L'ville winds up #2.

I don't believe that we'd catch any unbeaten ACC team in the computers. Also, Harris Interactive comes out next week, so we'll see where L'ville is ranked. A win over Iowa would help Ohio State, but they've looked less than impressive thus far.

With the human polls permitted to take margin of victory into account, 66% of what goes into the BCS is influenced by team image. If for that reason only, this team needs to crank up the octane. A one-loss team that plays in squeakers (and other than the Texas game, we really don't know if they're going to do a replay of mid 2002-mid 2004) isn't going to get much love from that 66%.

As far as the computers, which triggered this post, we need three things: wins over the rest of the B10. OOC wins by the B10 in whatever OOC contests remain, combined with in-conference losses by teams we don't play (Purdue and Wisky). And finally, wins by opponents we've already played.

Texas will do their job. I haven't checked what Miami's schedule looks like, but they should be solid in the MAC. SDSU is going to be a liability.

I still think if this team wins everything through mid-October that it can be top 5 in the BCS by that point, and top 3 by winning out the season.
