Uh...they played Virginia Tech LAST YEAR...you were the one that said they "lost to a 5-6 NCST team last year" as if that made them an inferior team, and I followed that by pointing out they won the ACC.

As for Arkansas, I guess a win over Texas at Texas doesn't count as a big win? So you don't think it will be if we win there next year?

Of course they also beat Auburn and LSU in 2002, and Alabama in 2003...but I guess those teams don't qualify as good either.

Whatever.
don't forget that 'SC beat scUM in the Rose Bowl... the same scUM who beat us by two TDs, IIRC...

umm... i don't know what game you watched, but Va Tech BEAT NC State this year... BTW, NC State had the #1 overall defense in the country last year... their O, however, was terrible... anyway. Va Tech played USC VERY TOUGH in the first game of '04, and Auburn had to hold on for dear life in the last game...

you can go on and on about 'SC's schedule, but until someone knocks them off, that point is moot...

which gets us back to Louisville... do you think we could beat them right now? i'm having my doubts... we couldn't stop them every time, and our O can hardly even move the ball against a 100+ ranked Defense... they deserve the ranking, period.

umm...I watched the game that would have been relevant to the discussion, if you were paying attention to the conversation, namely the NC St.-Va. Tech game last year, which NC St. won.

Do I agree that USC is the top team in the nation? Yes. Do I think that they'd go undefeated if they played in the SEC or Big 10? No. Hence, my point.

And to answer your question, yes, I think we'd beat Louisville. Their running up the score on subpar talent doesn't impress me. I don't think they could score more than our 27.7 ppg against our defense. Remember, fella, defense not only keeps people from scoring, but it also can put you in great field position, thereby curing lack of ability to move the ball. Accordingly, your terse analysis of, "they deserve the ranking, period," is unavailing.

Looks like I was right again.. You guys still think Louisville would beat us?

Who thought Louisville would beat tOSU? I didn't go all the way back in the thread...

VTech is the real deal IMO. If they can make it through the ACC gauntlet, I could see them giving USC a serious game...without getting into the numbers or depth, I was just as impressed with the Hokies as I was with the Horns.

No doubt. I am starting to have some real concerns that they may go unbeaten.

Every buckeye complaint about offense should be answered with the word Louisville. They define offensive excellence, and yet they couldn't do anything this day against bottom dwellers. Tressel is much brighter than most people realize. There are times where he's a little too conservative, but it sure produces a lot of W's.

You didn't have to go back too far to find quotes like this of Buckeye fans (unlike myself) who were saying last week that we couldn't beat them.
congratulations. you called me out... maybe you missed this:

I hope the people all over the Louisville bandwagon are enjoying their crow.
well, if you put a shitload of Cholula hot sauce on it, and wash it down with about 16 Tecates, crow ain't half bad...
i'm more than willing to admit when i'm wrong... considering your scUM status, warning levels, etc, you might not want to point fingers, hmm?

Good analysis regarding L'Ville over on the OZONE. Tom's Tip Sheet has quickly replaced the now defunct "Quarterback Club" as the best OSU weekly reading during the season. Read it. It's good for you. (Hopefully BN44280 will see the part about weddings)

South Florida put up 45 points in their win over Louisville, and they only completed five passes. Louisville looked truly pitiful trying to tackle and cover. It was an absolutely fitting debut in the Big East for Louisville. Actually, I think it was probably in the Big East Manual. Let me get my trusty Big East manual out, and see what we can find. Let's check the table of contents, ah there it is in Chapter Six...

Chapter 1: What is a football?
Chapter 2: No, that's a basketball.
Chapter 3: Mediocrity and You.
Chapter 4: It's Okay To Cry.
Chapter 5: How Not To Lose (Schedule More Byes).
Chapter 6: It's Not "Choking" If You Were Never Really That Good In The First Place
Chapter 7: Keeping The BCS Folks Happy
Chapter 8: Coping.
Chapter 9: Missing Temple.

Louisville wide receiver shot after altercation at club, expected to recover

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Louisville wide receiver Trent Guy was shot in the back early Saturday outside garage near a downtown nightclub. The school said it expects him to fully recover.
The 20-year-old junior was taken to University Hospital, where he was in stable condition after surgery, athletic department spokesman Rocco Gasparro said.
"His injuries aren't as severe as they could be," said Gasparro, who visited Guy. "At this time, we expect him to have a full recovery, but it's too early to speculate on his playing status."
Police said there have been no arrests and they are investigating.
Gasparro said an argument was sparked after a man touched Guy's fiance at the club. The club asked them to leave. On the way to Guy's car, two men -- one having clashed with Guy at the club -- opened fire on the victim and his fiance, Gasparro said.
The shooting was reported about 2:25 a.m., police spokesman Phil Russell said. He declined to say if Guy was shot, citing police department policy, but he confirmed there was a shooting involving a 20-year-old male.
Guy played in all 12 games for the Cardinals last season at receiver and was the team's top kick returner. He caught 11 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns, and averaged 22.2 yards on kickoff returns and scored a touchdown. He was expected to start at receiver this season.
