Lou Holtz (Official Thread)

Some of the younger BP members may not remember the all of Lou Holtz's coaching history:

Just sayin': Was Lou Holtz ever coach of a school that didn't get put on probation for NCAA violations during his watch?
Nope. Rumor is that's why Woody unexpectedly whacked him after his first year.

His loyalties have always been to ND, he’s never hidden it. Nothing new.

As far as the rumors about Woody firing him go, I’ve also heard many guys from that era say he was the coach Woody wanted to hire but Holtz turned it down because he didn’t want to be the guy who followed Woody Hayes at OSU. Earle Bruce being a program loyalist fell on that sword. So take it all with a huge grain of salt imo.

He’s just an old man taking.

Maybe someone can explain his logic to me. 'ND is a better team. OSU is not a great team. Yet, somehow OSU beat his ND team.' I am missing something. Maybe it is that special ND Football Is Back gene.

At least he got a blow job from Mark May

That's gotta be why Mark was inducted into the Lou Holtz Hall of Fame in beautiful downtown East Liverpool, Ohio.

Lou is still salty about 1995-96.

This is rich. In 95 - 96, he bitched about the media attention The Buckeyes were getting. “What about my team? Did Ohio State invent football?”

talk about hutzpah (can an RC have hutzpah?). To rep the most over-hyped program in the history of college football and project that on to another program… so glad Coop pounded his ass both times.

He is just a senile old man. I remember when he was excited and talked about how great the 2006 team was going to be. That poor bastard had to watch his team get blasted by Michigan, USC, and LSU in their 3 biggest games that year. He looked like he was going to cry while Mark May was laughing at him at the end of the season against USC and LSU.

You forgot to mention that OSU beat ND on ND's home field.

Do people really take Notre dame that serious anymore?

I guess in the Midwest since their campus is there they have a solid fan base, and the northeast apparently too since all the Irish catholic Americans in nyc and Boston. Maybe the west coast due to the usc rivalry?

All I can say is in the south I don’t think anyone ever thinks about Notre dame as a serious team or program. All the “S-E-C!” Idiot type fans aside (there are some who really adhere to that stereotype certainly), I’d say fans down here take Ohio state as a serious program (whether they love or hate them), and TTUN much less so, but there’s some regard for them.

But Notre dame and Penn state, I can’t say people ever really talk about or consider them. Yet they must have some sort of following based on the amount of media attention they get. As stupid as the sports media can be, I can’t imagine that they’d be yelling into an empty vacuum, listening to their own echo for the sake of it, would they?
