Los Angeles Lakers (17x NBA Champions)

I don't know how I feel about the Ariza for Artest consideration. There are so many things I like about Trevor's game; however, would he have been cost-prohibitive on retaining Lamar? I just wonder since it appears Artest is signing for the mid-level amount.

I like Ariza better than Artest. Ariza just knows how to be in the right spot at the right time and will only get better. Artest's defense is not as good as it used to be when he could be a lot more physical, and his offense can completely disappear.

Im with you... of course now, NO ONE will be able to score in or around the paint against the Lakers...

On Ariza... maybe they think shannon brown is a cheaper trevor ariza right now? He really came on at the end of the season, and, except for a couple inches, I think he has about the same game as TA.

Just look at last years playoffs, Artest was horriible.

I agree on Artest. Im relieved that he's not going to the Cavs. Sad that they couldnt work out something for Ariza... Ferry must not get those phone calls from the other GMs

Phil Jackson really liked him and said they were a lot better of a team when he was on the floor because he just has those things you can't measure.

I really like Artest to the Lakrs. A lot of people are saying his defense is a lot weaker than it used to be, but he gave LeBron a fit in Houston the night they worked us over by about 30 points.

All I know, is if the Cavs were to get to the finals, it would be a HUGE advantage for L.A. to have Artest defend LeBron the whole game, allowing Kobe to take a lesser wing player and be more rested for the offensive end. The Cavs still don't have that wing defender to pair up with LeBron...

Personally, I think Ariza's agent messed up the whole thing. He tried to play a "respect" card, and ended up getting his player squat. Trevor will just about make the same money as Artest (or more), and play on a team that's going to rebuild. I blame the agent big time.

As for who I'd rather have? I love the young fire of Trevor. I'm indifferent about Artest. If signing Artest makes keeping Odom and Brown easier, then I go with Artest.

Yeah, I'll be honest and say I am going to miss Trevor, he was huge in games when we needed him, especially the finals. Artest is a better defender, but he's got some issues, and I am curious to see how well Phil will address those.

Seemed like his Agent thought he could get 8-10 mil a year for Trevor, but with the Lakers financial situation, that wasn't going to happen. The Mistake contracts to Sasha and Luke really does effect players who may well be worth the money.
