Looking forward to the UT-tOSU game! (long)

not to nitpick, but

Larry Johnson, Penn State: Lost 13-7. Had 66 yards on 16 carries (4.1 ypc), but had 35 of those on one carry. Otherwise he had 31 yards on 15 carries (3.1 ypc).
31 yards on 15 carries is only 2.1 yard per carry, not 3.1.. otherwise, great writeup big-guy

Piney and martin, thanks for the info about the Bucks next season. That's exactly what I was looking for. I seem to remember something about Troy Smith's eligibility. Is he cleared to play now?
he "might" be cleared to play for the first game of the season but likely will not. he was given a self imposed 2 game suspension. but there has been rumors that geiger might appeal to the ncaa to let him off with a 1 game. now, since that whole deal began it has gone back and forth. my personal opinion is that troy smith won't be cleared to play until game 2. if that is the case i doubt troy will play and you will see zwick. again, that is pure speculation.

A few more questions/observations:

Sorry to bring this up, but I watched y'all's game with Northwestern this year. Zwick looked amazing at times, horrible at others. I guess it just boils down to inconsistency. That's freshmen quarterbacks for you. So this guy really has a shot at being the starting quarterback? I just assumed it was Smith's to lose.
zwick and smith were both sophmores this year but yes. it was both had their first real playing time this year. both (imo) have been very inconsistant. more obvious with zwick than with troy because balls have bounced troy's way. if he had been playing against db's with better hands, troy would have 5 more picks than he does now. but again, thats all in being a young qb.

zwick won out at the begining of last year to the point of smith getting literally no playing time early in teh season. i think he got 2 drives in the first game of the year and that was it until zwick got hurt. smith came in and did just as poorly until ted ginn, gonzo, the o-line, and brandon joe stepped up. hell, ginn and the defense practically won the msu game.

with smith being out for the first game of the year i doubt he will play in the second unless zwick drops the ball. as the starting spot was smiths to loose after zwick got hurt. i think the starting spot is once again zwicks to loose from the alamo bowl forward. though many will disagree, and most have legit arguements.

smith is mobile, though not fast, and throws a prettier ball. the problem is he doesn't (until the scum game) work through his progressions before tucking it and running. furthermore, he throws the ball one way and one way only. the same force he puts behind a bomb is the same he puts behind a quick slant. because of this our guys drop A LOT of passes from smith. zwick is the opposite. i think he should run more than he does and doesn't always put enough force behind passes. while half his passes are ugly as sin, the receivers seem to have no problems catching them. so at this point, hard to say who will be the qb. could be boeckmen honestly.

Spread offense. Pardon my ignorance, but when the hell did this happen? I didn't see any tOSU games between Northwestern and Michigan, so you can imagine my shock to see a mobile quarterback lining up in the gun with 4 receivers. On first down no less. Then I saw a typically stagnant, conservative offense throwing the ball all over the place and lighting up the scoreboard against a defense with 2 first team All Americans and blue chip recruits at every position.
the line and lydell ross were MAJOR dissapointments this year. ted ginn and gonzo stepped up as big play guys about midway through the season. we found we didn't have a tailback who could carry the load nor a offensive line that could make that possible. we reshuffled the offense and out came something that worked. that being what we refer to as the "shot-ginn". with the emergence of major play makers at the wide out position, it made the transition almost common sense.

Please to not forget giving the ball to Joe in the single back...

This is one reason I mentioned above that we lost 3 senior RBs and a true freshman stole carries from them. The 3 RBs were more the major disappointments, either because of their vision, or injuries hampered their progress. The Offensive Line had 3 new starters last year and midway through the season there were changes. By Michigan & Oklahoma State our offensive line finally started showing improvement and our running game improved.

Next year that whole line comes back and in college football that can be a HUGE predicator of success. We have Pittman who played last year and another freshman that redshirted. A local kid named Haw, we have high hopes from him. But this also opens it wide for a true freshman to come in and start. We signed Maurice Wells from Florida and you can read our recruiting boards about how badly we want Jason Gwaltney to be the big bruising RB to use against you guys next year.

Night Game?!

I just saw a rumor on a UT message board I frequent that our game will be at night. Please let this be true.

I don't know much about tOSU traditions, but I do know that the 'Shoe doesn't have permanent lights, but you bring them in for special night games. Is this true? If so, this is getting better and better.

What a setting: Two top 10 teams, early fall in Columbus, the Shoe, 100,000+ fans, a rare night game. Wow.

There is now a 100% chance (up from 99.9%) that I will drive my happy ass the 1246 miles to see this whopper unfold before my eyes.

Sidenote: Haven't visited in a while. I browsed through your 2005 recruit list. Very nice! Congrats on the solid class. Looks like JT is a heck of a recruiter too.

As of right now, its not a scheduled night game. However, I would not be surprised if its announced very soon that it will be a 8pm kick off. The last few good OOC teams to come in have faced just that and suffered accordingly.

Actually I believe the 'Shoe does have a little bit of permanent lighting, in four spots along the facing of C-Deck. I think one of them's on now if you look at my sig.

Anyway, a night game would be awesome. Texas would really be in trouble. The Buckeyes do not lose non-conference games at the 'Shoe, and they do not lose at night in the 'Shoe. The place would be absolutely JACKED UP. It would be the best non-M*ch*g*n game crowd EVER.

They do bring in lights for the rare night game. They are on giant, wheeled booms that raise the lights up above the exterior walls. There's only been 4 or 5 night games at the Shoe IIRC. The Shoe only has a few permanent lights, not enough to play a game.

While night games are rare, they do schedule them occasionally and I was at the last one against Washington and it was an incredible atmosphere. I've gone to a lot of games at the Shoe and that night game is one of the best. It would be great if the UT game was an 8:00pm kickoff.

I really think they're gonna do it. It would also make it a lot more possible for the entire nation to see the game, since the west coast would see it at 5.

I was at the wisconsin game this year and they wheeled in those lights.

One has to wonder if they don't want to mess with the look of the stadium in trade for an infrequent asset in lights.

I would've said "Welcome, EH", but I see that you've been here before. You are with literally everyone on this board in wishing that they move the game to a night start. The last true night home game we had was our 2003 opener against Washington, whom we totally throttled 28-9. The game wasn't nearly as close as the final score...the Huskies were never really in the game.
