Look Who's Transferring Now (The Portal)

Former Baylor quarterback Charlie Brewer will transfer to Utah after starting for Bears for three years

Former Baylor quarterback Charlie Brewer announced Sunday that he is transferring to Utah.

Brewer, a three-year starter for the Bears, is a graduate transfer and will be eligible to play immediately. He announced news on Twitter.

Brewer will be a fifth-year senior with one year of eligibility. He played four years at Baylor but will play in 2021 by utilizing the blanket waiver the NCAA offered to all players, which allowed them to compete in 2020 without spending a year of eligibility because of circumstances stemming from the coronavirus pandemic.

Brewer entered the transfer portal on Dec. 13. In his Baylor career, Brewer appeared in 44 games and started 40, including 35 of the last 36. He threw for 9,700 yards, 65 touchdowns and 28 interceptions while completing 63.5 percent of his passes. He also ran for 1,039 yards and 22 touchdowns.

He is the second Big 12 quarterback to announce that he's transferring to Utah. Former Texas quarterback Ja'Quinden Jackson, a freshman, announced earlier Sunday his intentions to become a Ute.

Not really a surprise, given the emergence of Graham Mertz. Would Harbaugh be interested?

Just sayin': I'm kind of surprised since both are decent QBs; but I really think Coen could beat out Mertz for QB1 at Wisky next year.

But who knows what happened behind closed doors? Maybe Chryst told Coen that he wasn't "his guy" anymore and suggested that he move on, etc.

Gimme Jack Coan and I don't care

Gimme Jack Coan and I don't care....

Former Wisconsin QB Jack Coan brings starting experience to Notre Dame

With its all-time winningest quarterback headed to the NFL, Notre Dame lacked any starting experience behind center moving into 2021 until former Wisconsin passer Jack Coan changed that Monday evening.

The graduate transfer started 18 games between 2018 and 2019 before a broken foot cost him the 2020 season. He led the Badgers to a 10-4 appearance in the Rose Bowl in 2019, completing 69.6 percent of his passes for 2,727 yards and 18 touchdowns with only five interceptions. Forced to the sideline in 2020’s preseason, Coan could do nothing but watch as sophomore Graham Mertz rose to the occasion.

Coan has one year of eligibility remaining, possibly a needed one for the Irish. Describing him as a “stopgap” is as diminutive as referring to any quarterback as a “game manager” — sometimes a fact would go unfulfilled if not for a particular player — but that does not change the reality of Coan likely becoming a one-year starter sandwiched between a pair of prolific Notre Dame passers.
